My Grandfather is matched with Pat Zarriello who has a picture of Peter Zarriello (born 1908) that looks very much like my grandfather. Pasquale Zarriello is his Peter’s father who was married to Antonietta Lenzi. I am wondering if Peter Sr. (1908) is my Grandfathers father. My Grandfather has no information on his father except it was a man in NY or NJ. His mother Rosa Mae worked for a family in Jersey at the time. I don’t know if the man knew he conceived a child with Rosa Mae. Whatever happened Rosa never wanted it shared with her son (my Grandfather) Any information you can give is greatly appreciated!
My grandparents were born in Muro Lucano. Their names were Gerardo and Maria Cantore. I was hoping there were still Cantore’s in the area as I’m planning a visit soon. My grandfather had several siblings and he was the son of Filomena Sofia Cantore.

Hi Glenn, my father’s side goes back to Domenic Cardillo in Castelgrande (close by) and I recently was informed that perhaps Cardillo goes back earlier to Muro Lucano. Likely we would be related and if you have visited and met an Cardillo relatives, would love to learn more. I believe when my great grandfather arrived to Greenwich, CT and was processed at Ellis Island.
Do you have more info on the Parrillos? We are trying to trace ours but can’t find any consistent info.

I had the pleasure of visiting Muro Lucano in October. I can’t explain how beautiful the area is. We went on the weekend so unfortunately the town office and the priest weren’t available. I did stop in the Marolda bakery and noticed the name Marolda and Cerrone are all over the town. The people we spoke with said you need more information to check your history as so many families are named Marolda. I’m hoping to head back in Sept. Ristorante Il Casereccio was an excellent choice, we were treated like family. I highly recommend it.
Michael

Hello, I’m looking for information on my great great parents, Francesco Zampino and wife Vincenza Ferrara (estimated birth years 1870). Francesco immigrated from Muro Lucano to New York in 1904 with son Vincenzo (born April 11th 1881 in Muro Lucano). Vincenza immigrated from Muro Lucano to New York in 1907 with son Domenic. I believe Vincenza had two brothers, one of which had sons Tom and Peter Ferrara, and also a daughter who married into the Ronzoni pasta family of New York. If anyone has any information regarding these people, or if you’re also searching for the same people, please reach out to me.
Hi Stephanie,
Your post is interesting, I am wondering if Vincenza Ferrara could possibly be a sister of my wife’s great grandfather, Giuseppe Ferrara. He was born in 1869, probably in the Bella/Muro Lucano area. He came to the States in 1897 settling in Chicago. His wife, Maria Gugliotta, and son Giuseppe Ferrara followed one year later. They didn’t stay in Chicago long and eventually settled in Victoria Canada. Years of research have produced no provable evidence of their lives before coming to America. Dna testing has provided the best evidence of a Muro Lucano connection, With numerous matches to people tracing their family trees to that area.
My Scianna family originates from Bagheria, Sicily where I have my fraternal family names connected back to an Antonino di Xianni born in 1678 in Palermo. He had two sons, one was surnamed Scianna and the other ended up Scianda. I’ve been told that di Xianni is old latin and that the Italianized would be di Scianni or Discianni. I’ve also noticed that there are many discianni in Muro Lucano. I also have a rare Y-DNA haplogroup (G-M201). Is there anyone searching for this surname di Scianni or Discianni? I would like to communicate with someone with this surname if possible. Thanks,
Gary Scianna
My ancestor is from earlier days. He was probably born about 1831 or 1832. Somewhere in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Can anyone find a record of a Francesco Scaringe /or Francisco Scorringi / or Francis Scaringi who left his home country by the age of 14 years?
Several English Ships were in the area of the Mediterranean back in those days. Two that came to New Zealand were the Philip Laing. Another was the Airedale. Francesco was said to have “jumped ship” but I have no facts about the name of any ship he may have been on. So my ancestor, a sailor, boatman, seaman, Master of Schooner in NZ, builder of punts,is something of a mystery. No parents ???
Bonjour sûrement francesco scaringi!je suis loi même 1 scaringi originaire de murolucano et je vis en belgique
My grandfather was born in Muro Lucano as Luigi Angelicchio October 11 1909
Born to Mariantonia Cerone
I have not been able to find any information of his father or where the mother was from. There is no father information on the certificate.
My grandfather and his mother traveled to NYC via Napels 1911.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kathleen – amazingly I am translating a birth certificate for a friend. The birth certificate is for a Mariantonia Cerone born Muro Luciano on 18 January 1871 to Pasquale Cerone, son of Vincenzo, age 38 and his wife Felicia Forano, age 28.
I’d like to know about my grandfather and all his family. His name was Domenico Gerardo Giacoio. He was born in Muro Lucano, Potenza on 24th May in 1908. He had around 15 brothers and sisters. He came to Argentina, I live here. The most of them went to Usa and in July we are going to travel to Nyc to meet them. But we know that some of them stayed in Muro Lucano. We know that there is a bridge called Giacoio where one of the brothers was left on that bridge. I ‘ d like to visit your beautiful Muro Lucano and maybe some of my ancestors.
Thank you very much for your help!

Hi my great great grandparents were both from Muro Lucano. They are Maria Gerarda DiBella (born Feb 14, 1889) and Donato Fasciglione (born Aug 7, 1887). They came to the US separately in the early 1900s. I have different dates, could be anywhere from 1900-1910. They married in Manhattan, New York. Anyone know anything else about this family? That would be greatly appreciated!
My grandmother, Maria Theresa Fasiglione and my grandfather, Frank Antonio Longo (Luongo) were born and raised in Muro Luano. I wonder if your ancestor was from the same family as my grandmother. I visited Muro a few years ago and did meet a member of the Fasiglione family.
My Great Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Antonio Spinaponte and Luisa Genuario, were married in Muro Lucano in 1890 and then immigrated to the US. Because they had both been married before and their spouses had died, they had to provide birth certicates for themselves and marriage and death records for their 1st spouses. Luisa was from Muro Lucano and I have been able to trace her line . Antonio was not and the marriage record I have says his parents names were not known. This record states that his birth records were submitted but they aren’t on-line. I believe they are in the Allegati records of 1890, which aren’t on-line. Does anyone have a suggestion about how I could obtain this birth record. Are these records in Muro Lucano or Potenza? Any further assistance would be very appreciated.
Regards,
Dwight
My grandparents were Louis Genuario & Maria Biancospino. They emigrated to New York and then Connecticut in 1895 from Muro Lucano. There are still Biancospino families in Muro Lucano however we were told that Genuario’s had moved away.
My grandparents were born and married in Muro Lucano. Their suname was Russillo. Is anyone familiar with the family?
Hi: I’m a descendant of the Russillo family of Muro Lucano. My great great great grandafather was Francesco Russillo. I’m descended from his son Filipo. He had many children. Most of them emigrated to the USA and lived in NYC/NJ area. Two of them lived in Annapolis, MD where I used to live.

She was one of eight siblings: Rafael, born 1878, Francisco Born 1880, Fiori: born 1882, Antonietta: Born 1884, Louisa: Born 1886, Teresa (my grandmother): Born 1888, Palma: Born 1890 and Maria: Born 1892. She married Guiseppi Martiotta in San Francisco in 1914. She had one child, Archangle (Archie) Margiotta, my father and died in 1930.

Hello Linda,
I know your post is old and I’m hoping that you’re still checking in here. I am a descendent of the Margiotta and Manconi families from Muro Lucano.
I cannot find anything on the Manconi side; I think the name was butchered when they came to the US. Marrone is one of the variants I keep seeing (it’s spelled differently in many documents).
I would love to hear if you were able to get Margiotta information when you visited Italy in 2016. My great grandparents were Michelo and Filomena (Luongo) Margiotta.
Janet
Hello,
I have traced my Italian ancestry back to Muro Lucano…I think! The surname is Scorese. If I have it correct, Pasquale Scorese left Italy for the United States in the mid-1800’s. His father was Francesco Scorese and grandfather Vincenzo Scorese. Pasquale had a son named Felix, who is my maternal great grandfather. I am looking for any information to confirm these lines are correct. I hope to come to Italy someday, but that is not certain. Thank you, in advance for any help.
My great grandfather was Pasquale Scorese (born 1853) and his wife was Maria Antonia Vitello (born 1865). Both were from Muro Lucano. However, there is no Felix in our records. Sons were Carmine, Anthony, Savino & Peter. Daughters, Vincenza, Maria Gerarda (my grandma) & Marie.
My great grandfather, Francesco Capezio, was born on 10/27/1887 in Muro Lucano. I’m looking for information on his sister, Victoria, who, at some point, immigrated to New York. Also looking for info on his parents, Antonio (b.1865) and Philomena Capezio. Thank you!
