  1. Hello, I would like help with my family roots.

My great grandfather was born, I think on August 15th in Barile, Italy. He emigrated to the USA in 1890 while on a visit with his great uncle. During the emigration I understand he changed his last name to Nicholas D’Zio from Nicholas DelZio.

After raising a family and two world wars, he visited his hometown one time in 1962 to see his sisters and other family.

    Best regards

  2. Not sure if this website is still active? My great-grandmother was a Caputo from the Barile area. Her parents were Nicola Caputo1864 and Archangela Strozza 1867, grandparents Onofrio Caputo -1822 and C. Volonnino -1828. The furthest back that has been traced so far is Giovanni Caputo -1752 who was married to Maddalena Sepe 1755
Other name in the genealogy are Fusio and Sperra. I believe

I probably still have distant cousins in the area. My great grandfather took my grandmother back to visit relatives when she was a child and she talked about visiting relative near to Napoli, though I do not know if it was to Barile or not… I don’t think he was born in the area, his surname was Tedesco and I believe he may have been from the north.

    1. I have all of these names in my ancestry tree. It is Hetrick/Callaghan/Cefola/Scavone. It’s public so you look at it.

  3. I believe my great great great grandfather came from barile. My last name is literally Barrile, is this a common surname or would it be easy to find my family?

  4. My family came to the US from Barile:
Antonio Malanga (1884-1973) – bis nonno
Rosamaria Botte Malanga (1884-1972) – bis nonna
    Nicola Malanga 1907-1972) – nonno
Michelina Perrone Malanga (1914-2001) – nonna

How can I find the names and dates of Malangas in Barile before them?

Thank you, Gary Malanga – San Diego, CA

  5. Hello!

My great-great grandparents came to Pittsburgh, PA from Barile in 1913. My great grandfater was named John (Giovanni) Barone and grandmother was named Rachel Volomino (various spelling).

John had a brother named Anthony(Antonio), I do not know much about him.

John fought for the Italian Calvary.

On his death certificate, John’s parents are listed as Samuel Barone and Elaine Siza. I believe they remained in Italy.

I’ve seen the name Rachel Volomino quite a bit and am wondering how common that name was in Barile.

They were related to people with the surname Giordano.

If any of this sounds familiar, I would love to connect!

Later in 1912, , she traveled with her 2 year old son Bartolo Talia to visit her father Michael in Barile returning on 21 October 1912 to White Plains, New York where they lived. Her husband’ s name was Vincenzo Talia. Rachela died after having 4 children on October 16, 1918. Her husband later remarried and had more children.
He made a lovely tombstone with her picture at her grave in Mt Calvary cemetery in White Plains, New York.
I am wondering if her Donato was your grandfather.
