Research experience on families in Teano

Over the years, ItalianSide has conducted genealogy research on historical families from Teano, involving many surnames traditionally found in the town, including branches of the following families: Compagnone, Croce, D’Angelo, De Biasio, De Francesco, De Fusco, Gliottone, Grande, Guarriello, Izzo, Laurenza, Licciardi, Mancini, Napoletano, Zanni and others.

Part of the information used by ItalianSide in genealogy research derives from a proprietary archive of on-site research conducted over many years in Teano and by our experts. This archive includes studies, family trees, and data not available online, such as cross-referenced family relationships, occupational histories, deciphered or translated documents, residential patterns, and visual documentation.

Research activities may include all major sources available at municipal, provincial, and regional level:
• civil records
• parish registers
• notarial archives
• military records
• historical and photographic sources
Direct access to archives and a deep understanding of the local context allow for more complete and accurate results than research conducted remotely or based on partial sources alone. Research may be carried out using all available sources in both public and private archives.

Genealogy in Teano

If your ancestors came from Teano, in Caserta province (Campania region), the first step is to identify the local archives where records are kept. Most family history research starts from the civil registry office at the Comune and continues in parish and notary archives.

Where to begin your ancestry journey in Teano

Vital records for people born, married or deceased in Teano are usually preserved in:

  • Teano City Hall archives: civil records (births, marriages and deaths) available from 1809 onwards.
  • Teano parish churches: in Campania, parish registers that can trace family lines back to the 1600s, and in rare cases even earlier.

Civil Records (Stato Civile) in Teano

In towns and villages of Campania and across Caserta province, civil registration offices were established after 1809, following Napoleonic reforms in the former Kingdom of Naples. This means you can often find your ancestors’ civil records in the Town Hall archives of Teano from that year onwards.

  1. Looking for other relatives or anyone who has info on my ancestor’s history. My great great grandfather was Antonio Caparco, son of Giovanni Caparco and Angela Masella from Teano. Antonio emigrated twice, first to Brazil, then to the U.S in 1910. He had a brother named Parido Caparco who had emigrated to RI prior to him.

  2. My fraternal grandfather was Luigi Leonardo, who supposedy came from Teano. His wife was named Guiseppina, from Avelino. My maternal grandfather was Guiseppi Guglielmo, from Maranola, on the slope of Monte Aurunci. His wife was Guiseppina De Meo, who came from Formia. I am related to the Treglia’s, Ruggerio’s, (or Ruggero’s,) who lived in Itri, on the other side of Monte Arununci from Maranola. My maternal great grandfather owned a town house in Formia, and farm land worked by tenant farmers (the Guglielmo;s) in Maranola. The Guglielmo’s, De Meo’s and Leonardo’s emigrated to the USA. My mother, Francesca Glandina Guglielmo, was born in New York City in 1910, a few years after the families arrived. They moved to Rhode Island from New York. I am the last surviving member of the Leonardo family and I live in Connecticut. I want to know if my Leonardo grandfather did come from Teano, and anything anyone might be able to tell me about the families. I possess a visa written in longhand by a notary for my grandmother Guiseppina De Meo, to emigrate to the USA. Is is legible and written on very fine thin paper a bit thicker than tissue paper. I have no other legal documents about my grandparents. I visited Maranola in 1980 and met some cousins, one a Guglielmo, one a Treglia, and some others of a more distantly related family. I found a lot of Leonardo families were living in Teano, but I do not know which ones may be related to my grandfather.

  3. Greetings!! I’m looking for help with the Grande name. My great grandfather was Domenico Grande (1862?), he married Frances Bardino (187?). I have a copy of the manifest for their travel to Ellis Island in 1901 and 1904 respectively. It says they are from Teano. They had two sons Francisco Grande and Alessandro Grande born around 1895-1899. From Ellis Island, they ended up in New Castle, PA, close to Frances’ brother John. I hope someone can help me figure this out.

  5. I am searching for my family IORIO from Teano, Caserta, Campania, Italy. My grandfather Francesco IORIO (1859) immigrated to the USA in 1880, settling in the NYC-Bronx, New York area. Frank’s sister Anna (1863) and brother Giuseppe (1874) both followed their brother to NY. Their mother Rosa DEMADIO (1828) also immigrated, but I have not been able to confirm if Rosa’s husband and father to her children, Antonio (Ukn), left Italy, for a new life in the USA. We have a Rev. Francesco IORIO, unknown when he was born or died, but, by the photo I have, I would “guess” he was older than Antonio (perhaps he was an uncle). Perhaps Rev Francesco was born abt 1800. If any name in my family has ever crossed your family research I would be most interested in sharing family information and histories. My husband and I will be in Teano, next summer, and looking forward to walking the streets that brought our family home at the end of the day. May be I will find their parish as well. Thank You….
