  1. My Great Great Grandfather migrated to Australia in 1876. His name was Felipo Fermio but we think his surname may be not quite right as we’ve had no luck finding this name in the region. He was born in Lovero. His mother (from his Australian marriage cert) was Margaritte Tramache. This surname possibly not exact either. We know he was a smuggler. He possibly had a brother who migrated also. We think he travelled to South Africa for gold mining before reaching Australia. Anyone know of any variations of these surnames in the Lovero district?

  2. I have a copy of my grandfather’s birth certificate: Emilio Alessandro FRANZI, February 15, 1876 at Casa di Via Alfieri Venosta No. 27, Lovero…The Birth Certificate does not shows father or mothers names …. we understand he went to live with the Mambretti family in Vervio. We have tried to find baptism records without success. He married Maria Cecelina Mambretti (born 1883) in 1903 in Vervio and I have their marriage certificate….I”m looking for any other details of Emilio Alessandro FRANZI’s life.

    regards,

    Alan Franzi

    1. Thanks to Italian side …They found my grandfather’s (Emilio Alessandro FRANZI) birth records… the english translation is:

On February 18, 1876, Maria Zampatti, 37 year old, midwife, resident in Lovero, came to me Stefano Zampatti Civil Officer of the town hall in
“Lovero Valtellina” in office since March 17, 1866, to do registration of Alessandro Emilio FRANZI’s birth. So, she said that on February 15, 1876, at 11:15pm, in the house nr. 27 at “Via Venosta” a baby of male sex was born to a Swiss woman which doesn’t want to be let know her name (for privacy reasons). We have given the name “Alessandro Emilio FRANZI” to the baby. The witnesses are: Domenico Giuseppe Giudice, 24 years old, farmer and Giacomo Zampatti, 65 years old, landowner, both resident in Lovero. After I had read this act to all present people, the following signed it.

      Zampatti Maria, midwife
      Zampatti Giacomo, witness
      Giudice Domenico, witness
      Zampatti Stefano, Civil Status Officer

      Assumptions (from Family rumours)

FRANZI …. was this the name of the Swiss mother ?
Alessandro is the patron saint of Lovero … hence his first name
Emilio …maybe the name of the father or a grandfather
Domenico Giuseppe Giudice …the 24 year old witness … the only other person other than Zampettis at the birth …Was he the father ?

      1. I am actually looking for records of my great grandparents. Their last names are Tognoli and Zampatti. Zampatti seems to be a rather popular name in Lovero, or at least it was at one time! I cried when I saw a bakery with my family name on it in Grosotto.
