Research experience on families in Atina
Over the years, ItalianSide has conducted genealogy research on historical families from Atina, involving many surnames traditionally found in the town, including branches of the following families: Orlandi, Visocchi, Bove, Caira, Bastianelli, Rossi, Petrilli, De Angelis, Tamburrini, Mancini, Nardone, De Luca, Fortuna, Sabatini and others.
Many records relating to families and individuals are already stored in our databases and include, in addition to names and dates, further information such as occupations, residential addresses, and key family and social relationships within the Atina community in past centuries.
Part of the information used by ItalianSide in genealogy research derives from a proprietary archive of on-site research conducted over many years in Atina and by our experts. This archive includes studies, family trees, and data not available online, such as cross-referenced family relationships, occupational histories, deciphered or translated documents, residential patterns, and visual documentation.
Research activities may include all major sources available at municipal, provincial, and regional level:
• civil records
• parish registers
• notarial archives
• military records
• historical and photographic sources
Direct access to archives and a deep understanding of the local context allow for more complete and accurate results than research conducted remotely or based on partial sources alone. Research may be carried out using all available sources in both public and private archives.
Genealogy in Atina
If your ancestors came from Atina, in Frosinone province (Lazio region), the first step is to identify the local archives where records are kept. Most family history research starts from the civil registry office at the Comune and continues in parish and notary archives.
Where to begin your ancestry journey in Atina
Vital records for people born, married or deceased in Atina are usually preserved in:
- Atina City Hall archives: civil records (births, marriages, deaths) from 1809 onwards.
- Atina parish churches: in Lazio religious registers, which can often take your research back to the 1600s and sometimes as far as the 1500s.
Civil Records (Stato Civile) in Atina
Most of the municipalities in the province of Frosinone were part of the Kingdom of Naples. This means that civil records have been available since 1809. In that case, you can find your ancestors’ civil records from that year onwards. In the other parts of the province, however, as in the rest of region, civil archives only began after the second half of the 19th century after the Italian unification.
This means you can often find your ancestors’ civil records in the Town Hall archives of Atina from that year onwards.

Hello, I am looking for information on my Great Grandparents. Sabatino and Rachel (nee Derossi) Deangelis I was told to look in the Atina area. There is not much info before the came to Canada. I just know they were from the same village but didn’t meet until they arrived in Canada or on the ship to Canada. They married in Brantford Ontario and had 11 children only 10 survived to adulthood (lost a baby girl at birth) and someone in the family that stayed in Italy, was a Nun. That is pretty much all the info I have. They came to Canada between 1908 and 1923 I believe.

Hi, I forgot about this page and haven’t checked for replies until now…so sorry. My family in the us has lost contact with all family members and I would love to be part of a reunion should that ever occur. Or at least find out family history. I know they ended up in the UK, Scotland. They were my mother’s grandparents. My grandfather’s name was Berry, but I knew it had been changed. I understand some of his sisters kept Sabatini name.
This is a shot in the dark, but I am helping my mother try and locate her biological Father and members of his family. My mother was born in Atina in November 1955. Her mothers name was Rita Degni from Civita D’Antino , Province of L’Aquila Abruzzo.
The problem being we do not have a name for her biological father and believe her may be deceased, however there is a possibility he also had 2 sons which would be my mother’s half brothers. My mother and grandmother left Italy and moved to Scotland with a family called Volante’s from the village of Atina. My mother and grandmother then moved to Ireland where they still live.
If there is anyone with any information or are familiar with the Volante family please let me know. Thank you Stefania

Does anyone know if Church Records for Atina are held anywhere else? I got very limited help from the priest of the church in Atina when I visited and he was also totally unresponsive to the requests of locals who thought they could persuade him to provide more information. Someone suggested they may have copies somewhere in Santa Maria Capua a Vetere.

Hello
I have only just seen your reply sorry. Do you have any information on my grandfather. I would love to talk to you, any information on our family would be lovely. I am hoping to visit Atina in the near future.
Regards
Marie.
Hi Marie,
My name is Stephen and my father was John Louis Fideli and his father was Anthony Fideli Corsi.
My father was born in Pontypridd in 1923 and died in 2009.
I remember my father saying that his father changed his name to Corsi from Fideli but kept it as a middle name.
My grandfather never gave a reason for doing this , however , your text mentioned that Rosa was married to a Fideli who died and then must have married a Corsi. We may have some connection ?
Regards,
Steve
Hi Stephen,
Your grandfather Anthony was the brother of my great grandfather William. Their father Alfonso Fedeli was from Italy and he and his wife Rosa settled in Pontypridd in the early 1890s. I don’t know much about Alfonso, but he died in 1904 and he was about 20 years older than Rosa.
There is a census record from 1901 where Rosa and her children are living with a man named John Corsi. I don’t know the details of this, whether she was in a relationship with this man or if it was a family member of Rosa. I also can’t find any records of Alfonso between 1891 and his death in Pontypridd in 1904 but he appeared to still father children with Rosa during that time…
Anyway… for a period of time (Rosa’s children adopted the surname of Corsi. I have found census and school records where many of the children switch between the surnames of Fedeli and Corsi. Some of the children, like your grandfather, ended up using both Fedeli-Corsi as their surname when they became adults.
Rosa then married a Para in 1906. The Fedeli children continued to use Fedeli/Corsi as their surnames though.
I cannot find any other record of the John Corsi that Rosa lived with, he seems to vanish into thin air. I unfortunately do not know her maiden name either. I’m of the assumption that she “married” this John Corsi, which is why she used that surname but I can’t find an official record of this. It’s all a bit of a mystery!
Hi Andre,
Sorry for the late reply but I have only just read your reply. Thank for taking time to send such an informative reply which I found very interesting. I live about 8 miles from Pontypridd and wondered if we could meet up one day, if you live in the area. Look forward to hearing from you,
Kind Regards, Steve

I have been tracing my family for many years now, I am at a dead end, I am trying to trace my great grandfathers birth, Nunziato Gizzi was born it Atina in 1824, he later married Maria Grilli, can you be of any help?
My great-grandfather Carmine Mancini(November 1875) and his wife Restituta Corsi(July 1879) are both from Atina. I was looking to verify these dates and also their wedding date which i believe was in 1901 in Atina.
Their two oldest children were also born in Atina. ( Bernard (1903) and Anna(1906))
They left for abroad between 1906 and 1909. They lived in England (where 1 child born)and France(another born here) before settling in America (4 more children here)in 1913.

Hi
I am tracing my ancestry and can only go as far as Francesco Gargaro who was born in 1850 in Atina Frosinone. He was married to Maria who was Born in 1855 – they were already married when they moved to England and in an 1881 English census he was living in Chapel Street Derby with Maria and there were a number of other Italians living at the same address – Francescos occupation was given as a musician. I believe there were a number of Gargaros in this region and there still is, although it is not one of the more common names. I wonder if you can help by providing details of his parents if possible.
Thanks
Lynn

I’m in Atina for a couple of days searching for records of my grandmother, Catherina Vecchione, born in Atina on 23 June 1892. Her father was Geatano Vecchione born in 1867, and her mother is believed to be Filomena D’ Angelis, also born in 1867.
As far as I understand from records in Rotterdam, Holland, she moved to Rotterdam in 1911 ( at the age of 19), to marry my grandfather Franz Johann Reumkens in 1912. My father was born on 2 August 1913. Catherina died 4 November 1935 in Rotterdam.
I have never been able to find ou more about her, as my father died when I was 6 years old. Recently I started the search with my son, who is very interested to find out about his roots, especialy the Italian link. What makes it complicated is, that my grandmother registered in Rotterdam as Vickioni, born in Atina. According to several people I met on blogs and forums, this cannot be right and it should be Vecchione or Vecchioni. Can you help in finding out more. Kindest regards. Hans
