Hello,
Do you know who Loreto’s parents are? What is Loreto’s date of birth?
I’m looking for info on the Rufo’s, Tocci’s and possibly Tempesta’s all in the Boston area but originally from San Donato. Specifically they lived in Brighton and Somerville.
My great grandparents were Donata and Gerardo Rufo and they had one son, Antonio. Gerardo came to the Boston area and left his wife and son in Italy until he found housing and a job. Donata then came with their son who had poor vision. Gerardo and Donata were estranged and Donata lived across the street from St Elizabeth hospital. I believe she had a sister named Loretta. Any information would be helpful.
I am also looking for information on Rufos. I’m from the Philadelphia branch. This is hard because everyone was named Donata, Donato, Loreta, or Loreto! Hitting a brick wall with arrivals in the US.
My cousins live in brighton mass
My dad angelo roffo (deceased) his sister
Vilma Rufo is my aunt living in brighton.
Email me with any questions.
Sincerely
Lynne
The only way you can find out is to contact the city hall of San Donato give them the information that you have and maybe they halp! I Know that most the people in San Donato were named Donato; Evans my name is Donato but I’m a half Sadonatese and half Settefratese!
Excuse
my spelling, I came here I was a old man!
Have a special evening!
Dear Robert, I wonder if it’s possible that we are related? All of these names are familiar to me, as the granddaughter of Albert Coletti of Quincy, MA. My mother always said our closest relatives were Paglias and Tramontozzis. The other name I’ve heard is Gallo. I remember visiting several of these extended family members near Boston and in Connecticut, in the 1970s.
p.s. My grandfather’s siblings and parents were from San Donato and I really hope to learn more about them!
It is possible. if you can provide more information on the relatives you visited in Connecticut. Names and location in Ct would be helpful .
Kristen, if your mother’s name is Carol, we are cousins! Albert was my great uncle. His wife was Siri. I have a lot of info on the family.
I am looking for information on the birth and or death date of Fortunata Cugini Coletti who was the daughter of Donato Cugini. Fortunata married Loreto Coletti and had two daughters Angelina Coletti, Annamaria Coletti and two sons Francesco and Antonio Coletti. Angelina married Alfredo Antonellis in 1917 but was widowed in 1919. She then married Donato Coletti in 1920. Annamarie Coletti married Antonio Paglia in 1921. Francisco (Frank) married Carmella Tramontozzi in 1928 and Antonio (Tony) Coletti married Susan Coletti in 1925. Fortunata Cugini Coletti lived her whole life in San Donato. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Robert,
Angelina and Alfredo are my Noni and grandfather.
Tom
Donato Cugini was my Great Grandmothers brother. My Great Grandmother was Antoinette Cugini (maiden name, Mazzola).
Like the rest of you, I am researching my heritage in Italy. Presently, I am looking to confirm that my grandfather and his brothers on my father’s side were from San Donato, Caserta. My grandfather, Pietro Mazzola, may have been born on May 15, 1871 in San Donato. Pietro had at least one older brother, Tom (U.S. name). He may have been married to a Donato or Donala, surname unknown, in San Donato before immigrating to the U.S. in 1893. The thing is, we are not sure of my grandmother’s name. She had two or maybe three sons before my father was born in Philadelphia and then died shortly after his birth. She is a complete mystery. No one remembers her name, not even her first name. But, I believe she followed Pietro to the U.S. a year or two later, with what would have been their first child. Any information, suggestions or revelations will be greatly appreciated.
I meant to type “Donata” or Donala….
My grandmother was Antoinetta Quintiliani Coletti, her brother was Loreto Quintiliani, their parents were Antonio Quintiliani and Guissepina Pellegrini Quintiliani. I am looking for the parents of Antonio and Guissepina.
I am looking for information on Costanzo Casale. Came to America with his father Domenico Antonio Casale. His mother was Madeline Salvucci

Hi Jack, my relation great great grandad was antonio
Hello, Looking for information on my grandfather’s relatives. His name was Carmine Leone, born in 1904 in San Donato Val di Comino. Emigrated to the USA through Ellis Island when he was about 16 years old. Lived in Newton and Waltham, MA.
My grandfather, Giuseppe Emiddio Quintiliani was born on the 22nd December, 1878 in San Donato Val di Comino. Antonio was his father and was 27 years old at the time. This would indicate that Antonio was born in 1851. It also shows that he lived in Via Maggiore and that he was a musi-fabbio(?).
I have not been able to translate this last expression.
His mother was Maria Rosa Quintiliani who was a Weaver, and ‘convivente’ with Antonio (common-law wife?) and they lived in Via Maggiore. The record did not mention the house number.
From the English Census, I figure that Giuseppe came to England with his uncle, Giuseppe Conetta, from the town of Picinisco, in 1891, 92 or 93, and married his cousin, Maria Lucia, whose mother was Maria Carmela Quintiliani. I cannot determine which was Maria Carmela’s sibling: Antonio or Maria Rosa, but she was the daughter of Rafaele Quintiliani and Santa Roffo. According to a separate record I have located, they may have had a brother, Donato Quintiliani, son of Rafaele and Santa Roffo, born 16th Dec. 1849 and two years older that Antonio.
On my only visit to San Donato, I was told that there were numerous Quintiliani families in the town; so many in fact that they each have a ‘nick’ or clan name. Never having been told of any such name, I could not pursue that avenue farther: It seems to have been borne out by the War Memorial, which bore two entries: ‘Donato Quintiliani, fu Carmine’ and ‘Donato Quintiliani di Cesidio’
A family story related that they intended to emigrate to the USA but one of the party suffered so much on the first leg of the sea crossing that they stayed in England. during my childhood, (during the 1940s), a young American girl turned up at our house claiming to be a niece of my Grandfather, so it seems we have cousins in the USA.
If anybody can fill in some of the gaps, I would be very grateful.
Hi Peter, My family Cardarelli and Sacchetti (from San Donato) had relatives in Newton & Watertown by the last name Quintiliani. Whether they were truly “blood” relatives or not, I am not sure. My mother made the crossing boarding a ship in Naples with her mother Carmela and her twin brother Cesidio and older brother Gerardo in May 1935 entering the US through Ellis Island, New York. Their home was in Malden, MA and there are some Quintilianis in Malden.
Peter l am Ernest Quintiliani of Massachusetts, USA. I know that my Great Great Grandfather was Raffaele Quintiliani of San Donato and his wife Wash santa Roffo. Thier don, Donato Quintiliani, Emigrated to the USA with his wife Maria Ianucci, my Grandfather Ernesto Quintiliani, and his siblings (Antoinetta, Asunta and Giuseppe Quintiliani.
Perhaps there is some connection?
The gravestone of my great grandmother, Filomena Abbruzzese says Valle di Comino, so I guess that she may have come from San Donato or nearby. She was born around 1855 and was married to Rafaeloa Abbruzzese. I know they left and were in Paris in the 1890s, moving to England following the death of Rafaeloa. Does anyone have any knowledge of the Abbruzzese family in this area? Are there any of that name still there?
Hello Gillian
My mom’s eldest sister was married to Salvatore Abbruzzese. Though they came from Frosinone, they ended up in Toronto. What I do know is that my uncle Salvatore was from a town that was displaced during World War I or II and ended up by Sora Italy a that time. I hope this helps!
I was raised near, and grew up around, my grandparents. My grandfather was Gerardo Rufo. My grandmother was Donata (di Buona) Rufo. They settled in Malden, Massachusetts around the end of the first world war. Gerardo had brothers and sisters. Two of the sisters stayed in San Donato and never emigrated. I would like to communicate with their children/grandchildren,, or any of his brothers and sisters that moved to the US. I never met a di Buona relative. If anyone knows any of these people. I was told we were NOT related to the Rufo’s in Newton, MA. Somehow related to the Rufo’s in New York. Thanks.
Robert-
I am a cousin from Malden. Your grandfather and my grandmother were brother and sister- Gerardo Rufo and Carmela rufo Tramontozzi. She and her sister Lorenza stayed in Italy. The boys came to America- Gerardo and Donato stayed in Malden; Orazio moved to Wakefield. We are related to the other Rufo branches (Brighton) but not too closely. Different branches have different nicknames (sopranomes). If you see this, Contact me directly for more info.

I just started researching for my mothers side of the family. her father was Carmine Mazzola, born in San Donato I believe in 1886..
We are in the USA, where he had 11 children. My search is on!! I saw the Mazzola name and was encouraged already!
Donna…. we are cousins! My grandfather is Joseph Mazzola, Carmine’s youngest brother. I have been researching the Mazzolas for quite some time and have a lot of info to share.
Sharon Mazzola
Sharon, my mother had an uncle who was named Joseph Mazzola. His father’s name was Luigi and one of his sisters was named Loretta (possibly spelled Loreta), who is my mother’s mother. Uncle Joe had 4 children, Toni, Beatrice, Faldo and Nondino. Could this Uncle Joe possibly be your grandfather? My mother is now 90 years old and we are trying to help her organize family information.
My mother’s name is Maria Tocci, born in San Donato, her mother was Lucia Pellegrini. She died when my mother was very young and I’d love to learn more about her family.
Recently went to San Donato and met cousins. My grandfathers name was Donato Sambucci he left the Port of Naples in 1902 on a steamship. He lived in New York and married Angelina DiAgastino. If anyone has any information on his life and family in San Donoto Val di Comino please reply. My mother his daughter’s name was Anunziotta Theresa Sambucci. Thanks
Hi….
Heading to San Donato in about three weeks. My grandfather Donato and grandmother Mary both came to Newton, MA (a sister city of San Donato) in the 19-teens. Grandpa was born in 1896, Grandma in 1906. I’m told I have relatives there whom I’ve never met. It’s a daunting task of where to begin looking. Any ideas are welcome.
Grazie!

Hello! Looking for information about my great-great grandparents who lived in San Donato Val di Comino in the 19th – 20th century. Here is what I have. My great great grandfather was Cesidio Piselli. I think his wife’s name was Maria (maiden name Cedrone). Their daughter (my great-grandmother) was Assunta born around 1896. She married my great-grandfather Gerardo Di Bona. He was a tailor. They had two sons while in San Donato Val di Comino. My grandfather, Donato Di Bona (Daniel) was born 29 Sep 1918. My great uncle, Loreto Di Bona (Larry) was born 25 Apr 1919. The came to America in the 1920’s and settled in the Overbrook neighborhood of Philadelphia, Saint Donato’s parish – where many others from San Donato Italy settled. They had 4 more children and many grand & great grand children. I’ve had no luck locating information on Cesidio Piselli or my great great grandparents on the Di Bona side from San Donato. Any help is appreciated!
Hi Danielle,
My grandmother Donata Leone came from this town. She then married my grandfather Lorenzo Piselli. This is on my dads side. My grandmother on my mothers side is a Dibona. The Leone’s settled in Brighton Mass. and the Piselli’s in NYC. We might have the same great great grandfather Cesidio Piselli.

I am looking for relatives of my maternal Grandmother Amelia Piazzesi. Her mothers maiden name was Francalanci. My Grandmother was one of 7 siblings as far as I can gather. She was a twin born in 1917 and she was either born in or spent a fair amount of her childhood in San Donato. She met a soldier in the war while working as a nurse and moved to New Zealand to marry him in 1947. I am visiting Italy this year and am looking for any information about her life in Italy.
My maternal great grandfather Antonio Coletti, born in San Donato in 1797 had a brother Padre Eraclio. Was there other siblings? I believe their father’s name was Giacchino Coletti. Is there any information about him?
Hello, I am seeking information on relatives of Carmen (Carmine) Cardarelli (born February 15, 1899 to Cesidio and Justina (DeRubis) of San Donato Val di Comino and Carmela (Sacchetti) Cardarelli. My mother Pasqualina Cardarelli and her twin brother Cesidio were born in San Donato on September 20, 1930. I am trying to figure out what siblings of my grandfather Carmen (Carmine) Cardarelli immigrated to the United States and to what states. I know my grandfather departed from Naples on the passenger ship Stampalia arriving at Ellis Island, NY on May 19, 1915. He returned to Italy and married my grandmother Carmela Sacchetti on February 4, 1924 in San Donato. They had 3 children while in Italy and my grandmother Carmela along with the 3 children Gerardo, Cesidio and Pasqualina(my mother) immigrated to the US departing Naples on the passenger ship Conte di Savoia and arrived at Ellis Island, New York on May 9. 1935. Carmen and Carmela settled their family in Malden, MA. where they had 4 more children: Donata and Justina (twin girls) Antoinetta and John.
According to what my grandmother told me, my grandfather had the following siblings: Antonio, Serafino, Donato, Gerarda (married name Marini), Antonia and Loreta. Any information is appreciated.
Hi There!
My grandfather was Donato DeRubeis (spelling may have changed) and he was also from San Donato. His parents were Luigi DeRubeis and Loretta Bersichetti, he married Carolina Ioli.
Hi Ann! Thank you for the reply. After further research I do believe the spelling of my great-grandmother’s name is Giustina DeRubeis. I am wondering if your great-grandfather Luigi DeRubeis and my great-grandmother Giustina DeRubeis were siblings? Do you have contact with anyone in San Donato? To my knowledge my grandfather Carmine aka Carmen, his brother Serafino and his sister Gerada are the only children of Cesidio and Giustina (DeRubeis) Cardarelli who immigrated to the US. If you have any information, I would be most grateful!!
Hi Linda, I don’t have all details and names in front of me but I am the great grandson of Serafin Carderellli. My grandfathered Gerardo Marini ( migrated from San donato in 1920s) married Jenny Carderelli. Jenny had a few siblings: Lenny, Susan , Mary ( corsetti) and Millie. They mostly settled in Malden, ma. My grandfathers brother settled in ‘The Lake’ section of Newton, Ma. I think there are more descendants from San Donato in The Lake than in San Donato itself. My fathers cousins from lake are Donato, Luig, Patsy, Mary and some in laws named apellegrino, Tocci, etc. you get the picture.
Pretty sure we share same lineage
Hello!! So glad to make the connection. We do have the same lineage! I actually knew Millie and Mary. My family settled on Thacher St. in Malden. Jenny Cardarelli aka Gerada Cardarelli was my grandfather Carmine aka Carmen Cardarelli’s sister. I remember as a young girl going to Newton to visit relatives. I remember the name Quintiliani in the Watertown/Newton area.
My Mom occasionally sees Sue (maiden name Crowe) and Linda (maiden name Crowe) unfortunately usually at a family wake/funeral.
I have tried very hard to find additional information on the relatives that remained in Italy but have not had much success. I did go to San Donato as a teenager with my Grandmother and met some cousins. We stayed at her brother Donato Sacchetti’s home. My mother and her brother John made the trip in 2010. It was the first time my mother had returned since leaving in 1935.
Do you have any additional family history? I would love to know more!
Hi Linda This is Phyllis Tocci in NY. My dad was Eugene Tocci. His parents (first cousins) Nicola Tocci and Maria Carmela Marini. My dad was raised by “Uncle Jerry” Gerardo in Malden as a teenager. Story goes…my paternal grandparents were obligated by their mothers (who were sisters) to marry because my paternal grandmother Maria Carmela was pregnant. Nicola reluctantly married her in September 1924. By November 1924 he left my pregnant grandmother, his wife in San Donato. My dad was born May 1925. My grandfather, his “father” didn’t return to have them brought to America. Apparently, his brothers (Antonio and Loreto Tocci who lived in Jersey/NY) tricked him to sign papers and bring my dad and his wife over to NY. So by the time dad arrived here with my grandmother, it was 1936. He never knew his dad prior. His father rejected him because he claimed my dad was not his son. Hence, why my grandmother sent dad to live with the Marini side in Mass. his cousins Lucio, Donato, Patsy and even Lucy were like siblings. Fast forward 2019…I am on Ancestory.com. I’m batting my head around because it appears there’s a chance MY parents somehow are related even though my mom came from a town 25 mins west AND they were an arranged marriage. Dad was already in the States and mom was in Italy. My biggest challenge is that I seem to have “half” family members as per Ancestory. not to mention I’m 100% Italian blood lineage. I know Maria Carmela’s mom’s maiden name was Cellucci as was Nicola’s mom’s maiden name. I know my dad at some point here in NY was engaged to Cardarelli who was a cousin? I have confirmed that Toccis who married Marini etc are all cousins. That being said…anyone know if and who possibly could have been my dad’s biological father? I’m also trying to see if there is a connection with Sandonatese folk and Sora Italy… any insight ? Any old timers around to shed light would be appreciated. So many have passed and had told me they didn’t know because much was unspoken. Thank you Blessings Phyllis (Filomena)
Hi Phyllis, Sorry for the delay in responding. I have not been on this site in a while and it does not notify you when someone has responded only when your post is approved.
As you said, many of the elders are gone. My Mom is now 89 but unfortunately does not recall many of the relatives last names and how they were related. Her brother John Cardarelli lives in Malden MA (my uncle) is 12 years her junior and was born here in the states. We have been working together to try and put the puzzle pieces in place.
When I went to Italy in my teens, I met a girl my age named Filomena. She had been staying with relatives in the states and had gone back to Italy for a visit at the same time I was there. I do not recall her last name but I believe she was somehow related. I have not done any of the DNA kits.
I work as a corporate flight attendant and a few years ago I had a Cardarelli on my flight out of the White Plains airport in New York. After exchanging many of the family names, we believe we may have been related. I did not get any of his contact information.
We were searching for the surname Biccari in San Donato based on a US Naturalization Application by Vittori Baccari. He stated that he came from San Donato Italy. Further research showed that he married Domenica Lombardi, also from San Donato. On her death certificate in Pennsylvania, USA, her parents were stated to be Nicola Lombardi and Theresa DiRubius….. When I saw the response from a lady with very close to that surname…DeRubeis…I thought that was interesting and worth a comment. Not sure what help this can be but Vittori and his wife Domenica came to USA in 1893, via Le Harve France. Others possibly in the same Biccari (or Baccari) family also came from Donato, thru Le Harve France…landing in NYC…some migrated to Phila, Pa and others stayed in NYC. Our ancestry stayed in NYC and his name was Robert Baccari. The connection with the DeRubeis family and others in the small town of San Donato causes me to wonder if these families may all be related. The Baccari’s appear to have originated in Foggia, Italy…in Southern Italy, east of Naples and for some reason, migrated north to Donato…maybe part of the trip to USA. Not sure any of this is any help….but….you never can tell what might happen.
hello my father donato lombardi was born in san donato val comino on april 10 1919. his father giovanni lombardi also s.d.v.c. born in 1890 [maybe may 15] son of loretto lombardi and nunziata cellucci his mother maria luiga cenci also of s.d.v.c. born in 1895 father was gaetano cenci s.d.v.c. mother donata coletti s.d.v.c. they were married in s.d.v.c. on june 11 1913. i would appreciate any information on their genealogy going back as far as possible. i am happy to pay for pertinent information. thank you very much

Hi Dennis,
My great-grandfather’s parents were Gaetano Cenci and Donata Coletti. I have been trying to find additional information regarding his time in San Donato before he emigrated to the US. Were you able to obtain any information?
Both my grandparents were raised and married in San Donato Val di Comino on November 9, 1909. Giuseppe Cardarelli is my grandfather, born of Luigi Cardarelli and Enrica D’Amigo on July 5, 1886. Loreta di Bona his wife was born of Pietro di Bona and Vincenza Fusco on April 19, 1888. They came to America by ship to Boston on 12/24/1919 with 3 children, and Loreta had 4 more children in Pittsburgh PA. Would like church records from Santa Costanza Church where they married.
John, This is your cousin, Barbara, daughter of your Uncle Joe and Aunt Glenda. I too would like additional information regarding our grandparents. I have some basic information that I can scan and email to you. I haven’t seen you since you were about 12 or 13 years old; but, I have often thought of you and your brother. Now only our Uncle James (aka Jimmy to many and “the Colonel” to his children) remains of the 7 siblings. My memories of visiting Nona and Grandpa in their apartment behind the shoe repair shop are still vivid.
Hello John! My family and I have recently begun a genealogical project, and I think we may be related. My great-grandfather was Cosmo Cardarelli (born 1889 in San Donato), brother of Giuseppe, Antonio and Eduardo Cardarelli. He married Cesidia DiBona (b. 1892) in 1911 in San Donato. She was the sister of your grandmother, Loreta DiBona. They had 11 children, three of which are still living here in Massachusetts and New York. It would be lovely to connect with you and exchange some information about our ancestors. I hope that you receive this message! All best, Andrea
Hello from NY! my great grandparents were from San Donato. Teresa Tangredi married Antonio Cautilli ( later changed by immigration to Cantilli). they lived in San Donato in the late 1800’s and had children Ettore, Gaetano. We are researching the Family Tree which I know my father has done and visited San Donato. He met cousins there. Please let us know if there is any information available. Looking for information on my grandfather Biaggio castaldi born in San Donato on or about 1888
I am researching Pellegrini family from San Donato Val Comino, Italy. My Grandfathers name was Cesidio Pellegrini. He was the eldest in the family that came to Newton, MA first and then moved to Brighton, MA. My father was Luigi (Louis F. Pellegrini) born in Newton, MA and raised in Brighton. I would love to see the town my Grandfather spoke to me of. If anyone has family info if family is still in that town I would greatly appreciate it. Judy
I am looking for information on my great granfather Donato Cugini. He was born in San Donato in 1846. He had 7 daughters. Giacinta, Fortunata, Carmella, Francesca, Levia, Donata and Loretta. The question I have about my great grandfather concerns his wife’s name. One source says its Guissepina Stang’lovo and another source says it was Guiseppina Coletti. What is the best way to find out the correct name of his wife and the date of marriage?
Thank you
HiRob,
My name is Coree Divino. My grand mother who is one of 9, Antoinette Cugini. Her mother, Antoinette Mazzola cugini. Her father Carlo Cugini. All from San Donato Val a Comino. We live in Newton! Great grandmotber was one of 9 or 11- but we only know one sister- Donata Mazzola Cugini! Donata married a Salvucci. Please feel free to email me! We still live in Newton ma!
Hi Robert, donato cugini was married to guiseppina stanglovo cugini. She was my great grandmother carmela cugini’s mother. I don’t believe she was a coletti.
I hope that helps.
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan, I just saw your post and it is interesting. My great grandfather Donato was born on 2/2/1846. If Carmella was a daughter of the same Donato Cugini and Guiseppina Stanglovo Cugini I would strongly believe that my great grandfather Donato was married twice since 4 of his daughters who immigrated to my hometown Norwich, Ct (Francesca, Loretta, Donata and Giacinta) indicated in their obituaries, passport, and in death certificates that their mother was Guissepina Coletti. The other 3 sisters remained in Italy (Livia, Carmella, Fortunato) and I do not know their birth dates which would help since I know the dates of birth of the 4 sisters that settled in Norwich, Ct. I should note that Donato Cugini immigrated to Norwich, Ct in 1914 and lived with his daughter Giacinta and husband. He passed away in 1933 at the age of 87.
If you have any birth dates i.e., Carmella, Donato Cugini that would help me make the determination if my great grandfather Donato married twice.
I would appreciate any help you can provide. Look forward to hearing from you.
Jonathan and Robert –
I am also the granddaughter of Donato Cugini who married Josephine Fennero and lived near Backus Hospital. He was born in San Donato VDC. He was a stone mason and had a brother Gerardo and a Sister Lucy that came to NY and then settled in RI and she settled in Newton, MA. He left a brother and other siblings back in Italy I believe. He passed in 1978. His mother was Maria Nicola Tocci from what I can find.
Jonathan,
Do you know if Donato Cugini was married twice. First to Guiseppina Stanglovo and then to Guiseppina Coletti?
BJCG, That is a different Donato Cugini. My great grandfather Donato Cugini died in 1933 in Norwich, Ct. He came to Norwich in 1914 after his wife passed away and lived with my grandmother Giacinta Cugini Quintiliani.
Looking for information on Pietro Iannuzzi born 1868 and his wife Rose Cassella who were born, married and had at least one child named Charles Iannuzzi in 1898 all in San Donato Italy

Hi, we know through an uncle that Nunziato Visco and his wife Filomena Leone, husband and wife were both born in this area in 1892. We would just like a second witness. We can’t seem to find this info anywhere else. Thank you
I am told that no Fronsinone records are available online. I am just starting out researching the Italian side of family but where to begin is frustrating me. My grandmother, Francesca Martini Mazzola born in 1920 in Alvito but her family moved to San Donato, married Armando Mazzola, also born in 1920 in San Donato, came to America in 1938 (to Brighton, MA Bugs Village) with his Step Mother and brothers. I know his father, because he also came to America but my grandmother’s family is a mystery. How would one start to research if they know next to nothing?
Do you have any information on the Cellucci family. My dad was called Joe but birth name was Cesedio. He was born 1905 (?) Had 2 brothers. Fathers name was Luigi and mothers Annemarie. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
My family is the Cellucci’s from San Donato as well! Not sure how we are related but I am sure we are! My great grandfather is Antonio and his father was Pasquale. Who married Constanza Moschettti.
My great grandfather was Cataldo Coletti from San Donato Val di Comino. He had a brother, Domenico, who had a son, the famous sculptor, Joseph A. Coletti. I would like to know if anyone knows Cataldo’s father.
My grandfather was Cataldo Coletti. I have visited San Donato. It is wonderful. A’yello flag’ city meaning it is well run, beautiful and a very high qaulity of life. I know nothing of his brother. I spoke to someone in MA, A Trina Prima who knows of the lineage. I know that my granfather emigratged to Olean, New York where both my mother and I were both bord.
Looking for paternal info. My father was known as Joseph but his given name was Cesidio Cellucci. He was born 11/13/05 in San Donato. His fathers name was Luigi and his mothers name was Maria. He had 2 brothers ? names. He came to the U.S. around 1915. Was supposed to be with relatives in Philadelphia but somehow landed in Newton, Ma. Any info would be appreciated. An address would be outstanding. Planning to go to San Donato within the next couple of years.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
I’m trying to find if I am related to Joseph A. Coletti. My grandfather was Peter, (Pietro)Coletti.
Yes you are. Domenico Coletti was my grandfather. Joseph A. Coletti was my father. I, who live in San Francisco, and my sister Miriam( Mimi) Coletti Dow of Buffalo NY are Joseph A Coletti’s two daughters. Joseph A. Coletti died May 5th in 1973 at the age of 78.
Hi,
I am looking for my great-grandfather Demetrio Ferdinando Raffaele Coletti. He was born in San Donato Val di Comino in 1850, son of Domenico Coletti and Veneranda Volante. I would appreciate any information.
He died in Brazil in 1914
Are you related to Angelina Coletti? Her brothers were Antonio Coletti (married Suzzie) and Frank Coletti (married Clara). Her sister was Annamarie Coletti (married Antonio Paglia). Her father was Loretto Coletti and her mother was Fortunata Cugini.
Linda, my name is Robert Quercia and just saw your post. I was born and raised in Norwich, Ct and knew Antonio and Suzzie Coletti as well as Frank and Clara Coletti. My grandmother Giacinta Cugini Quintiliani was a sister to Fortunata Cugini. Fortunata lived on Via Mazzini in San Donato. In doing some genealogy Angelina was married to Alfred Antonelli but was widowed at the age of 22. She visited her aunt in Norwich Ct Francesca Cugini Coletti in 1920. After she left her aunt Francesca I was unable to determine if she got remarried and where she was living.
My mother Clementina was born in San Donato in 1909 and her mother was Giacinata Cugini Quintiliani and they lived on Via Piave. My mother and grandmother immigrated to Norwich, Ct in 1913. My grandfather was Tito Quintiliani and my great-grandfather was Donato Cugini the father of Fortunato.
I also know the children of Suzzie and Antonio Coletti as well as the children of Frank and Clara Coletti.
If you see this post maybe you can add some information or if you have any questions I would be glad to answer.
Robert – can you tell me the children of Frank and Clara Coletti

Linda, have you seen my comment? I would like to chat with you regarding Angelina Coletti and her family.
Linda, I hope you received my previous message. Again, I am related to Angelina Coletti, Frank Coletti and Antonio Coletti. My mother was first cousin to all of them. So, I would be second cousin. I know the children of Frank and Tony Coletti. Frank’s youngest son is named Frank and he is my age an we went to school together. I do not know you but would like to talk more about the Fortunato Coletti family. Fortunate’s sister Carmella married Donato Coletti and they immigrated to Newton Mass. I just found this out recently. She passed away at a young age from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. She had 7 children and most died at an early or at infancy. Please respond if you see this post. Thank You.
Linda, I just found out that Angelina Coletti married Donato Coletti after Donato’s wife Carmella passed away in1919 from pulmonary tuberculosis. They lived in Newton Ma and then moved to Barre, Vermont where they lived the rest of their lives. They had 4 children. Donato passed away in1944 and Angelina passed away in 1983. Angelina’s daughter Evelyn married Charles Fitzgerald and they settled in Bristol,Ct where they raised their family. She passed away in 2003.
Hi, I am trying to gather information on my grandfather Carlo Cugini b, 1/22/1894 in San Donato. Ineria? I think his father’s name may have been Luigi. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1916 or so . I think he had brothers named Bagio and Mario. I am not certain. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Mazzocug. My name is Coree. My Great Grandfather was Carlo Cugini. He did have two brothers Mario and Bagio. He married my Great Grandmother, Antoinette. Formerly Mazzola. They had seven children: Teresa, my mother Darlene, Linda, Gail, Mary, Tommy, and Anthony. 781-771-6776

Hi –
My mother was adopted in 1955 in Bridgeport, CT. Her father is Daniel (Donato) Quintiliano (Quintiliani?). He was born in San Donato on February 22, 1902. He came to the US in October 1920 aboard the Dante Alighieri. His parents remained in Italy. Perhaps his father’s name was Raeffele.
Anybody out there have any additional information related to the Quintilianos of San Donato?
Dustin
There were a lot of Quintiliani’s in San Donato. My uncle Donato Quintiliani was born in San Donato in 1901 as well as my mother Clementina Quintiliani in 1909. My grandfather Tito Quintiliani was also born in San Donato in 1878. They all eventually came to The US and settled in Norwich Ct but had relatives in Quincy Ma. I was in San Donato in 2013 and if you go to the cemetery you will see so many Quintiliani’s with the same name that it is very confusing as to who is related to who. If you speak Italian you can get information about your family at the city hall located in Piazza Liberta. Good luck if you happen to read this.
Robert – Thank you. My grandfather was the only one from his immediate family to come to the U.S. I think I have determined that his mother’s name was Luisa/Louisa (Cedrone) Quintiliani. When my grandfather came over he listed her on the passenger list and his nearest relative in the US as Giovanni Cedrone in Wilmington, DE. My relatives recall Cedrones in Delaware.
I’ve tried to get information from city hall in San Donato. Is the Piazza Liberta that you are referencing in San Donato?
Dustin
Thanks, Robert. I have requested my grandfather’s birth records.
I just had to say hello to you both! I am a Quintiliani through my paternal side! I was born in Quincy, MA and this surname is ANCIENT and nearly extinct in Italy and rare here in the U.S.!!!
My grandmother is not very clear on our genealogy, so as far as I know my great grandfather was born in San Donato and emigrated to the US soon after. His name was Bruno Quintiliani and he and his brothers had a monument carving business in Quincy. They were all apparently stone cutters in the Quincy quarries. My great grandfather married his fourth cousin who was ALSO a Quintiliani…. Whoops! Anyway, I love to connect with other folks who may in fact be distant family members. I am an opera singer and it makes me very proud to see this name emblazoned on a marquee or a program! Imagine my joy when I got to see the Metro stop in Rome on the B line called Quintiliani and then the archeological site know as the “Castei dei Quintiliani” right next to it! Buna Fortuna!
Hi Barbara – Good to hear from you. I’ve really gotten in to genealogy in the last couple of years. I know there were a lot of Quintilianis in the Quincy, Mass, area. My family is concentrated in Connecticut and Delaware.
Hi Dustin, I am a Quintiliani and Dan was my great grandfather. He lived in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia and married Lucia (Lucy) Mazzola. His son, Carmine, was my grandfather. There are a number of Quintiliani’s in this area and there is actually an Italian National Roman Catholic Parish there called “St. Donato’s” after San Donato Val di Comino.
Hi Dustin, my father’s family is all Quintiliano my grandfather was Loreto quintiliano born in delewar I believe. His father my great grandfather was Donato (daniel) Quintiliano born in San Donato around the same time you mentioned. I am also trying to go back as far as I can and I thought that Donato’s father was also a Loreto Quintiliano married to either Teresa or Louisa Cedrone but this is were I get stumpped at. My father says that Donato’s father died young 27-28 ish and he would come to America with his step father. Who for all we know could have been his father’s brother. It wasn’t uncommon in thoes days for a woman to marry her husband’s brother if he dies young, but that’s just a guess. Anywho I just did my 23andme ancestry and it comes back to a lot of posdiblke relatives and many added the cedrone surname. Let me know if you find anything out.
Hi Emily,
I guess we are on the same path. Let me know what you find too. I hit a dead end with my family tree, so I started working on Anthony’s.
Holly
Hi Dustin,
I’ve just started working on my husband’s family’s side after I hit a dead end in Ireland with my family in the 1700s. He’s also a Quintiliano and Daniel was his great grandfather. I’ll be following along as I start piecing the tree together. I guess we are cousins 🙂

Searching for my paternal ancestry. My grandfather(Benedetto Antonio Maggiorino)was born in May 1892 he was found at the doorstep of Lucia Valvona in Picinisco later given to Filomena Silla she had a biological daughter named: Maria Silla> He married my grandmother : Elisabetta Mancini Fanone Maggiorino they later lived in Rosanisco. My grandfather was in the states to work in 1920 later returned to Italy until his death in 1959….We know that it will be difficult to find any information. He was baptized by Maria Latte in the church in Picinisco,,

My Mother’s parents were from San Donato, though my grandmother’s family moved there from Alvito. My grandfather’s family, Mazzola, went to Brighton, MA before WW2 and my grandfather went to Italy after WW2 and married my grandmother. My grandparents were Armando and Francesca Mazzola. They lived in Brighton, MA. My grandmother’s maiden name was Martini.
My mother, their daughter Rita, passed away in 2012. I do not know much about my Italian side and am interested in exploring it.
Hi, I have been trying to develop our family tree for the younger members of our family. My mother was born in San Donato VC, her name was Donata Maria Cedrone, her father was Loreto Cedrone and her mother was Donata Loreta Cocuzzi Cedrone (not sure if it was Cocuzzo or Cocuzzi). They lived at 11 Via Maggiore, and emigrated to the United States in 1936. Her brothers and sisters were Lucia, Cesidio, and Carmello. They sailed on the Saturnia from Naples. My grandmother’s parents were Valerio Cocuzzi and Giovanna. My grandfather’s parents were Cesidio Cedrone and Carmella Marini. This is all I know, and I was wondering how would I research to go back even further? Thank you! I have been reading other comments and have found it to be helpful and interesting!
I lived in Via Maggiore. Giovanna Cocuzzo leaves in Woodbridge Ontario( Just North of Toronto. Valerio passed away few years ago. Giovanna has 2 sisters and leave in Woodbridge

Hello, my father was Domenico Rufo Cocuzzo, he was born in 1927, 9th october.
He came to Uruguay and got married with my mother, all his brothers and sisters also came to Uruguay, but he passed away very young and I lost this part of my history.
I would like to know about my grandmother, she was Maddalena Cocuzzo, I don’t know
my grandfather’s name.
I know the family’s house is still at San Donato, and I would like to know if there´s still a part of my family there.
Thank you in advance.
Hello,
My father & mother were born in San Donato Val Di Comino. My father (Mario Rufo) & mother (Carmela De Rubies).
They immigrated to Australia in 1952. My father’s family house is in Via Bel Fiore/Fiori. I’d like to know if this address is still correct?
My father had (Basilio, Antonio, Gerardo) and one sister (Rita). My mother had three sisters (Antionetta, Cesidia, Nina) and one brother Pompeo. All my mothers sisters & brother immigrated to the USA. Her house was near the school but I’m not sure if that still exists.
I am travelling with my family to San Donato in December 2015 & would like to show my son where his Grandparents were from. Any help on the address for both houses will be greatly appreciated.
San Donatese in America[edit]
Many San Donatese live in New England, specifically in Boston, Massachusetts, and in The Bronx, New York City as well as Westchester County, NY.[citation needed] The village of Nonantum, Massachusetts is home to many descendants of San Donato Val di Comino residents and a variant of the local Italian dialect is still heard there.[citation needed] Another American city that has a very large number of Italian Americans from the San Donato Val di Comino region is Wilmington, Delaware. The following surnames from San Donato can be found in Delaware, New Jersey and the Philadelphia suburbs: Cellucci, Pesce, Casale, Leone, Visco, Rufo (Ruffo), Pelligrini (Pellegrini), Cedrone. Baltimore, Maryland is home to many Pellegrini’s from San Donato as well.
In Massachusetts, family names include Cugini, Gentile, Coletti, Pellegrini, Peruzza, Salvucci, Tocci, Antonellis, Piselli, Cedrone, Cocuzzo, Marini, Rufo, Tempesta, DiBona, Cellucci, Cardarelli and Leone. These names are also found in Norwich, Connecticut where there is a large number of San Donatese Italians. An annual picnic was held every summer for many years.
Many San Donatese also live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada such as Marini, Cedrone, Tramontozzi, Cellucci, Pellegrini. The San Donato Festival is celebrated every year courtesy of The San Donato Club and president Donato Tramontozzi.
and Lombardi as well.
and Perrelli
Also in Massachusetts, Mazzola
Donato,
I am a neice of Anna De Reubis Marini. I remember meeting your mother many years ago at my cousin’s wedding. I know that Cesidia, Aunt Nina, and Paulo are deceased. If you would like, I can call my cousin to check if she knows anything about the house and it’s location.
Lu
Hi Lu,
That would be wonderful. Our son is very interested, as Carmela is the only grandparent he remembers and misses her terribly.
Donato
My grandmother was born in San Donato and I’m looking for information about her family.
Her name was Maria Civita Fabrizio and was born on 21/11/1887. She had 3 brothers Carmelo, Donato and Luigi and 5 sisters Loreta, Anna, Assunta, Annunciata and Antonietta.
Her brother Carmelo Fabrizio was born on 7/12/1878 and her sister Loreta Antonia Fabrizio was born in 1885. Maria Civita, Loreta and Carmelo immigrated to Glasgow Scotland.
My grandmother and her sister in 1913, Carmelo some time before.
I believe her sister Anna was born in San Donato too on 5/8/1893, though I have no records of this, as I have no records of her other siblings.
Their parent’s names were Cesidio Fabrizio and Degna Maria Coletti.
I would be grateful for some help to find birth, marriage or death or any records of this family.
Annamaria
I am visiting San Donato with my family & would like to show them my Grandmothers house. Her name was Maria Rufo married to Donato Rufo. Her son’s (Basilio, Gerardo & Mario) and daughter (Rita) all immigrated to Australia. Her other son, Antonio, immigrated to the USA. An address to take a look from the street would be great.
I’d also like to show them my mothers house in the same village. Her name was Carmela De Rubies. Any address for the DeRubies family would also be welcomed.
Back in 1960’s my father and his cousin allowed Boston people to live in my dad’s father’s house in exchange for upkeep and them paying the taxes in my dad’s name and his cousin. I found paperwork showing this and was wondering what came of that property in San Donato, Italy. No one went to San Donato to check on the property and just allowed these people to live there rent free and yet we don’t know who owns the property now. It was never sold by my family but after so many years, what is the law in Italy?
Is it considered abandoned, still being paid in my dad’s name, still owned by my family?
I am looking for the birth record of my grandfather. His name was Carmine Coletti. He was born in San Donato in approximately 1879.
I am looking for the birth, death and marriage records of his parents. His father (my great grandfather) was Antonio Coletti and his mother (my great grandmother) was Carmina Rufo.
My grandfather was Achille Coletti born in 1892. I have some birth records.
My Great Grandfather was Cataldo Coletti from San Donato. His brother was Domenico. Their father was Giuseppe from Tuscany. That’s all I know.
I am looking for the names of Giovanna Salvucci’s parents. Giovanna was born 26 Apr 1867 in San Donato. She married Donato Pellegrini, son of Giovanni Pellegrini and Giovanna Decina born 3 Aug 1863, no marriage date but it has to be late 1880’s.
Hi Donna,
I don’t have any information on Giovanna Salvucci’s parents but i found out today that my great grandfather was Donato Pellegrini, son of Donato Pellegrini and Giovanna Salvucci. He was born in 1885 and died in 1917. Would this be the same family?
I am looking for information on Angelo Colleti, who was my grandmother’s father. Her name was Pompea Coletti and was born in Italy, but I don’t know where. Her brother was born in San Donato. My grandmother’s father was a stone cutter. His wife did not move to the United States with he and his children. Would appreciate any help you can give me. I. Will definitely be visiting San Donato the next time I am in Italy.
Could be my mothers grandfather Angelo, born in San Donato in 1843. He lived in San Donato until he was 57, had 10 children with Teresa (Toralani) Coletti. Of the 7 boys 2 died in childbirth.
Eugenia (Gena) 1876

Long story about Angelo, a successful builder in San Donato. Apparently he was in another town on business when one of his men erected a scaffold at a construction site with a bad timber which resulted in masonry material falling on workers who got injured and one died.
Italian law back then held the contractor responsible even though he was not there, let alone approve of the scaffold. The town officials recommended that he leave while his lawyer appealed a 1 year jail sentence, so he went to Paris to visit relatives. A friend asked him to go to America with him. Mind you, he had no passport when asked by a port authority in Boston. But being a jovial well liked person, he got into deep conversation with the inspector who just happened to know the area in Italy well where he was from, shook his hand, wished him luck and just let him pass. His wife died in Italy and the children came to America to W. Quincy.
Your grandmother is my grandfather Giacintos (George) younger sister.
Both of my grandparents are from San Donato Val di Camino. Cesidio Lanno and Carmella Leone both emigrated to the US sometime in the late 1800’s. I recently visited San Donato but was not able to obtain any information as my visit was on a Sunday when both the cultural center and church office was closed.I did see the Leone name on the soldier monument in the town piazza but did not notice the Lanno name anywhere in my travels. I hope you can help with some information about either family. Thank you.
Greetings, Im trying to help my wife find information on her mothers family. My wife’s grandparents were Luigi (1889-1956) and Carmela (Nee Leone 1889-1972) Salvucci. They were from San Donato val Camino and migrated to the US in the early 1900’s. We are looking for information on their parents and grandparents.
Thank you for all of your help.
Michael
San Donato civil records are on microfilm from 1809-1865. After 1865 they can be found in the town office. However the clerk is busy but often takes up to 6 months to respond to requests and wants full dates or maximum 3 years span to search.
The parish priest is very accommodating to researchers but will not do look ups unless you have a full date as the books are not indexed. What they do have is a parish census done every 10 years from 1630 to 1860 complete with birth dates.
We just sent an email about what to do and how to search.
Please tell me how to contact the parish to get census record information?
Buongiorno,
I am seeking information about my family.
My grandparents were Giovanni and Domenica Antonellis, who emigrated to New York in the mid 1930s. My uncles Cesidio and Donato, and my Aunt Gerarda were born in San Donato. My Uncle Antonio and my father, Rodolfo were born in New York City.
My grandfather’s mother’s name was Maria Leone, but I am not sure of my great-grandfather’s first name. As I understand it, they were from the Carbone clan.
My grandmother’s mother’s name was Antonia Salvucci, and I believe her father was Luigi Antonellis. They were from the DiManz (not sure of the spelling) clan. My grandmother sometimes went by Minga DiManz.
My grandfather was born June 3, 1896, and my grandmother was born November 22, 1898. I appreciate any information you can find. My cousin Roberta and I are coming to visit San Donato on Wednesday, June 18, and look forward to speaking with you.
Molto Grazie,
Teresa

Greetings,
I am looking for the birth certificate of Oreste Fabrizio (or Fabrizi: The story is that he changed his name when he came to America in 1923.) He was born in 1897 in San Donato Val di Comino. His wife was Marietta Quintiliani; his children are Benedetto (b. 1921) and Ilia (b. 1922), both of whom are still living. My husband, Aldo, is Benedetto’s 2nd child, and Aldo was born in 1957 in Newton, Massachusetts, USA.
I have found several records after he immigrated to the U.S., such as naturalization and census records. But my searches have not resulted in any Italian records.
Would you please direct me in my search?

Hi Anthony, I wonder if we’re related?
I am looking for information on Gaetano Cantelli and his wife Victoria Cardarelli. The original spelling of Cantelli is Cautilli, also Victoria may actually be Vittoria. All of their children were born in San Donato between the years 1866 and 1879. Their children were Cesidio, Andrea, Lorenza, Maria, Carmine, and Angelo.
Hi Alicia, Vittoria was my great grandmother, her son, ( my grandfather) was Carmine … Her maiden name was Cardarelli… She married my great grandfather Gaetano….my grandfather married Dominica Tempesta and after spending time in Buffalo NY with his uncle and cousins, settled in Quincy, MA along with his brothers…and sisters…we have cousins all over the south shore as well..
Hi cousin Danny! That would make you my Grandfather’s 2nd cousin. My Grandpa Bob is 90 years old, still drives and plays golf! His father was Louis Cantelli, Grandfather was Cesidio son of Gaetano and Vittoria.
Ciao, Alicia, nice to meet you. Your great grandfather and my grandfather Carmine were brothers. I may have a photo of him when he was visiting in West Quincy…. My father Liege was your father’s 1st cousin…..Have you traveled to SanDonato ?? I have been a half dozen times the first time in 1974 when many of the old timers were alive… I even spoke with some elderly ladies who remembered my grandfather…It was a lot of fun listening to them !!! Do you know any of your other cousins from Quincy…..????
Hi Danny,
Your great grandmother, Vittoria, may well be related to my father, Pompeo Cardarelli who was born in San Donato in 1902. His father, Nicolo Cardarelli, a widower, married a widow women in San Donato who had children from her first marriage. Together, they had a couple of daughters, one of whom may well be Vittoria. My Father settled in Philadelphia, and I live in a suburb of Philadelphia. Also of note, my father’s sister, Loreta Cardarelli Tempesta, settled in Quincy, Ma.
Going to San D in June – will look for more info.
Hi Joan,
Born in San Donato my Grandfather was Carmine “Carmen” Cardarelli. He was the son of Cesidio & Giustina DeRubeis. He had the following siblings:
Antonio, Serafino Donato, Gerada, Antonia and Loreta. I remember as a young child hearing about relatives in Quincy, Newton and Watertown. I wonder if we are related.
My grandmother Carmela Sachetti was also born in San Donato to Pietro Sachetti and Guiseppa Antonellis.
My mother Pasqualina, her twin brother Cesidio and their older brother Gerardo Cardarelli were all born in Italy and immigrated to the US in May 1935.
Hello! Gaetano Cantelli and Vittoria Carderelli were my great, great grandparents. Their daughter, Maria was my great grandmother, she married Loreto DiBona. Their son, Silvio DiBona was my grandfather. We all lived in Quincy up until the death of Silvio in 1970.
I too would like to know more about Gaetano and Vittoria. I have a photo of Maria and her children and in that photo is another older woman, I have always wondered if it could be Vittoria.
Alicia,
Does your grandfather Bob live in North Carolina?
