Another important source of information is the “Archivio di Stato” (National archive) in Venezia.

In any case, never give up! Probably the distance from your country and Italy, some difficulties in understanding and in translation, could complicate your search but this should not discourage you.

It’s important to plan your activities to carry on with simple goals (eg. search for a single date of birth, the name of an ancestor, the date of a marriage, etc.)

My grandparents on both sides came from Cavaso in the 1900’s. They both settled in Hilt, Ca I to lived in Hilt for 22yrs. My godmothers maiden name was Cappello, and so odd my mother’s maiden name was Cattuzzo. My fathers last name was Marin, who came from Cavaso too. I’ll ask Dad, who’s in his 90’s if he might remember your family as my godmothers Mom was a Marin, so we might be related?

In December of 1940, 7 members of the Poljokan family arrived from Yugoslavia and your town helped in hiding them from the Nazi’s until the end of the war. Marcos,age2 at the time, as safe an was able to enter school when he was of age, sand in the church choir and enjoyed a childhood under a very dark history in Europe. He spent six years in your town and several more in Italy until Marcos and his mother could get visa’s to enter the United States. The other members of his family went from your town to Brazil.

Marcos is finally coming back to Italy, arriving in Lake Como on September 5th and have plans to drive to your lovely town around September 13th for a few days. I am hoping that somewhere in the archives of the town there is some information about the family “Poljokan”. School records? children that attended school around that time?

Thank you for reading this email and any help would be wonderful. Where we have the information or not, Marcos is looking forward to coming and exploring a very important part of his past. Your town helped him survive so that he was able to go forward and make a goof life for himself and take care of his mother. Sincerely, Barbara Silverman x
