its possible my paternal grandmother’s adoptive parents were married at s.sebastiano parish in barcellona pozzo di gotto messina.according to her birth record, which i had translated many years ago,she was born “ignoti genitori” or of unknown parents. this couple, francesco landino and maria bonarrigo, weren’t married in the civil registry there,as they would have married around 1870-1872,give or take a few years, and i researched the lds films for that time period and found nothing. they had 3 natural children, all born in barcellona. my grandmother was given the name maria “costante” which is one of many surnames identifying children born in similiar circumstances.i’ve written to this parish several times with no response. i’ve read that a couple could have been married in the church, but if not married civilly, their children could be considered illegitimate. so its possible, though unlikely, that my grandmother could have been their natural daughter. also, maria bonarrigo, the adoptive mother, was, according to the birth record, the wetnurse who presented my grandmother to the civil registrar, and was given the complete custody and upbringing. this makes her aoppear as more than simply her wetnurse.once again,i’ve been researching this information for many years, and any information that could shed more light on this would be most apprecioated.
