  1. Catherine Luciani says:

My cousins & I are bringing my 84 year old Uncle to find his mom (my grandmother’s family – place of birth). My grandmother’s maiden name was Giuseppa Bonanno and she was born in Cerami on Jan 15, 1896. Her parents were Pasquale Bonanno and Anna Nicastro Bonanno. Her maternal grandfather was Giuseppe Nicasto and her paternal grandfather was Silvestro Bonanno. She lived in Cerami, Sicily with her family until she moved to the US when she was around 13 years old, leaving behind her family. Her sister’s name was Gaetana Bonanno. She had a brother, but I do not know his name. My grandmother’s great nephew was a priest at the Cathedral in Nicosia (unfortunately, I do not know his name).

My grandmother’s married (Americanized) name was Josephine Balsamo. My Aunts visited Sicily about 20 years ago and met with some of the family at that time. But, since my Aunt passed away and my other Aunt is 101 years old with dementia there’s no record of where the family is. I do know that the relatives they met took them to my grandmother’s birth place, so I know that there were relatives with some knowledge of the past living around 25 years ago. Any help that you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
