If you know (or you think) that your ancestors were from Faeto, you could find info about your Italian family at Registrar of Vital Statistics in the City Office or at the parishes.

Registry offices in Puglia and in Foggia province were established in early 1800: it means that you could find information in Faeto registrar as of that date.

So, if your ancestors were in Faeto in the nineteenth or twentieth century, then you could try to contact the City Office of Faeto to know more.

Before to start your genealogy research in Faeto, we suggest you to read our tips for your search . They are useful to search in Puglia and in Faeto too.

In the next picture you can see the demographic trends in Faeto from the Italian Unification (1861).

It could be important to know if the last name you are investigating is a frequent surname in Faeto. As more your surname is common in Faeto, as more it could be difficult to find the right info about your ancestors in Faeto archives if you have not exact dates.
It could be useful for you to know that some of the most common surnames in Foggia province are:
Bisceglia, Bruno, Calabrese, Caputo, Ciavarella, Ciuffreda, Clemente, Conte, De Luca, De Santis, Delli Carri, D’Errico, Di Bari, Falcone, Ferrara, Fiore, Gentile, Giordano, Guerra, La Torre, Lauriola, Leone, Lombardi, Longo, Marino, Martino, Nardella, Notarangelo, Palmieri, Palumbo, Pellegrino, Piemontese, Prencipe, Quitadamo, Ricci, Rignanese, Rinaldi, Romano, Russo, Sacco, Santoro, Schiavone, Simone, Totaro, Troiano, Trotta, Valente, Villani.

Church archives in Foggia province may instead contain even older information, but they are far less accessible from abroad (and almost impossible by email).
Then,parishes send information not easily.

If you have the opportunity to visit Faeto and Foggia province, you could plan to investigate churches’ archives by yourself (or with us!), but from abroad is very difficult to obtain any result unless you find a reliable local help.

Another important source of information is the “Archivio di Stato” (National archive) in Bari.

In any case, never give up! Probably the distance from your country and Italy, some difficulties in understanding and in translation, could complicate your search but this should not discourage you.

It’s important to plan your activities to carry on with simple goals (eg. search for a single date of birth, the name of an ancestor, the date of a marriage, etc.)

Hi, I’m doing research for my boyfriend’s family from Faeto. We are planning a trip there this fall. His grandfather’s name was Vito Benedetto, married to Filomena, and his dad was Michele Antonio Benedetto, born 10-12-1894 (brothers Pasquale and Carmen). He emigrated to the US in 1894 at the age of 4.
    Grazie mille!

I am trying to find relatives that came from Faeto, Italy. My grandfather Joseph Motto born 1899 in Faeto, and his brother Dominick Motto born 1897 in Faeto. They came to america with their mother when then were 6 and 4 years old. Their father was named Fredrick (Filideo) Motto born in 1876, and their mother was Antonette (unknown maiden name) born in 1875. I do not know if Antonette was born in Faeto.
I am looking to find any information about Fred and Antonette – birth records, marriage records, etc. Anything that could lead me to discovering my more distant relatives from the Faeto Italy area. Any help you can provide would be very welcome.

I am trying to learn more about Chick DeGerome. I was told his surname was changed to DeGerome from DeGirolamao. I have no idea where they were from. His wife was Josephine Forte.I believe they might have been married about 1912 or 13. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
