If you search your ancestors in Avigliano, in the province of Potenza, Basilicata region, the documents about your Italian family are stored in the City Office archives and in the parishes in the town.
Civil Records in Avigliano
In towns and villages of Basilicata and in Potenza province registry offices were established in 1809: it means that you could find your ancestors records in Avigliano town hall archives as of that date.
(If your goal is to claim your Italian Dual Citizenship and you need official certificates from Avigliano follow this link).
So, if your ancestors lived in Avigliano during the past centuries, then you should start your family research from the City Office of Avigliano to know more: on of our local experts is ready to help you in your research!

This is a necessary info to understand how many people lived in the town in the past.
To go on quickly in your research is important to know if the last name you are investigating is a frequent surname in Avigliano. As more your surname is common, as more it could be difficult to find the right branch of your ancestors family in Avigliano archives, expecially if you have not exact dates.
It could be useful for you to know that the most common surnames in Potenza province are:
Albano, Bochicchio, Bruno, Calabrese, Caputo, Carlomagno, Carlucci, Cirigliano, Claps, Colangelo, Conte, Cosentino, Coviello, D’Andrea, De Bonis, De Luca, Ferrara, Fortunato, Genovese, Giordano, Grieco, Ielpo, Labanca, Lauria, Lombardi, Lorusso, Marino, Martino, Mecca, Nigro, Nolè, Pace, Pepe, Potenza, Rinaldi, Romaniello, Romano, Rosa, Russo, Sabia, Santarsiero, Santoro, Scavone, Sileo, Summa, Telesca, Vaccaro, Zaccagnino.
Church Records in Avigliano
Church archives in Potenza province may store even older information. You will find religious records of the same events (births, marriages and deaths) but, most important, you could go further back in time!
So in case you would like to go back in centuries, it’s good for you to know that the parish registers in Potenza started during 1500!
They are far less accessible expecially from abroad and very hard to read and decipher if you are not used and skilled.
But our local genealogists, graduated in history and archivistics can research the church archives of Avigliano on your behalf.
Anyway for our experience, if you plan to come here, we always suggest to start the research months before the arrival.
In this way you will avoid to waste your holidays in the offices or in the churches dealing with italian bureaucracy .
With the results gathered by our genealogists before your arrival, you will have more free time to visit the town and surroundings on your ancestors footsteps.
Another important source of information are the notary documents available to expert researchers in the State Archives.

Has anyone been able to find Parish records in Avigliano online? I haven’t been able to find civil or parish records from 1865 – 1900. (specifically looking for birth and marriage records from 1866, 1868 and 1892.) Looking for marriage record for Vito Guglielmi to Vitacresecenzia Amati sometime around 1866, a birth record for their son Paolo Guglielmi/Guglielmo born 1866 -1868, marriage record for Paolo to Maria Genovese (unsure of year, possibly 1889) and birth record for Paulo and Maria’s son, Vito Guglielmo on April 26, 1892. All should be in Avigliano. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
I am a Stolfi my grandfather was Nick my grandmother was Marie. I know the Stolfi family resided in town of Avigliano in Italy. We also have some relatives whose name is Clap how are the claps related to the Stolfi family.
Hello! My name is Sophie Susano and I will be visiting Italy in the summer. My grandfather was Italian, his name was Charles Susano. His father’s name was also Charles Susano, although I believe his Italian name would have been Angelo Denato. His father’s name is listed as Vito Antonio “Donio” Susano, and his parents surnames were Susana (father) and LoVallo (mother). His birth place was in Avigliano, and he immigrated to the US, where our family has lived for a long time, although we have since moved from Pennsylvania, where he immigrated to. This would have been in the late 1800s. I’m looking for any Susanos or LoVallos in Italy who may have some connection because I’d love to learn more about my ancestry. Please contact me if you do! I would be so grateful.
My name is Lisa Verrastro and my father, Leonard Verrastro passed away a little over one year ago. We have always been proud of our Verrastro name and the story of my great grandfathers journey to America, but with my father’s death I feel the need to learn even more. The following information has been passed along to me from my cousin and godfather (Carl Verrastro). Vito Verrastro arrived from Avigliano, Italy as a 19 year old who departed in steerage on board the Italian steamer, SS Minghetti, out of the Port of Naples on April 15th 1905 and arrived at Ellis Island, NYC on April 25th 1905. The Ship’s passenger manifest records listed young Vito Verrastro as a, 19 year old “Italian Peasant”. Vito being unable to read or write Italian or English signed his name with an X. He was described as having $ 5.00 in US currency in his pocket. He was to be met by his sister Beatrice (Verrastro) Summa and her husband, Andrew Summa and for a while would reside with them at 94 Purdy Avenue Port Chester, NY. Young Vito would return to Avigliano one more time in his life to bring his bride, Domenica Maria (Colangelo) Verrastro to America…….. and so they began their family in Port Chester NY.
Domenica would give birth to nine children, 8 boys and one girl. Two of their children died in infancy of Influenza.
What I do not see are the LaBella’s and the Gianturo’s. My maternal grandparents came from Avigliano and migrated to America early 1900.
In fact the statue of Senator Gianturo is in the center of Avigliano.

My sister and I will be in Avigliano, Basilicata on Thursday, March 31st. We would like to meet with one of your representatives to discuss a geneology search of our family. Surnames are: Vaccaro, Telesco and Mecca. We also are hoping to solve a mystery concerning one of our grandfathers and one of our great grandfathers. We will need to know about the Castel Lagopesole and who worked there in the 1880’s to discover the birth mother of one of our grandfathers. (pregnant by the padrone at that time) In addtion, our Bisnonno Vittorio Vaccaro was murdered while working for the padrone as a protector of his land. We have specific names and dates to share..
Is it possible to set a time to meet in Avigliano or Potenza on the above date to talk about a possible search by your group? I am providing an email address of my sister, Christine, below. We are staying at the Hotel Miramonti in Potenza.
I am interested in learning about my grandfather, Paolo Vaccaro. He was born in Avigliano I believe July 1888. He came to America around 1910 and settled in Stamford, CT. He never went back to Italy. I would love to visit Avigliano and see his birthplace. Does anyone know the Vaccaro family?
I am trying to find information or family who may have known my grandmother and her family. Her name is Mary Ingoronoto Valvano born July 9, 1894 in Avigliano, Potenza, Italy. Her parents were Maria Domenica Verrastro and Bartolomeo Valvano. They arrived in New York between 1905-1908.
Ciao sono Vaccaro Franco.
Good Morning, We are planning a trip to Italy and are very interested in finding information on my ancestors before we arrive. I think we may have relatives there that are still with us.
I am searching for family members of my grandmother, Clarenda De Angelis, born in Avigliano around 1881. She married Vitaliano Ambrosino, from San Vitaliano and immigrated to the U.S. in 1906 and settled in Chicago, IL. I found a death record that states her father was Mario De Angelis. She has a very large family in the U.S.
Leonardo BOCHICCHIO born 1839/ Filomena SABATO born 1846 in Avigliano. Had at least one son Antonio ( Buchicchio ) in America. Married Maria Nicola Rubino from Baragiano and later went to Chicago.
Hi, I have a relative that was born in Italy around 1873. His name was Canio Sabato. When he came to the US he had a daughter Filomena Sabato. I also have the last name Bochicchio in my tree. Angela Maria (1849) who had a son Guiseppe Santoro.
I am looking for information about my great-grandfather, Joseph (Giuseppe) Diodato. He was born in Avigliano in 1857. His parents were Francesco Diodato and Maria Domenica Diodato, and he had a sister, Maria Carmella. The whole family immigrated to the US in the late 1800s-early 1900s. I would love information on how to obtain my great-grandfather’s birth certificate (I looked online but not successfully).
Thank you!
My grandmother, Mary Vita Crescenzia Girardo, immigrated to the US with her family in 1894 or shortly thereafter. I believe she was born 6/17/1883 in Avigliano, Italy. She met and married Anthony Charles Vincenza Romeo (Romano) from Boiano, Italy in Marshall, Colorado.
Her father (my great grandfather) was Angelo Girardo, born in Avigliano, Italy in 1840. He immigrated to the US in 1889 or 1890. His wife’s name was Maria Teresa.
Would love to hear from anyone with information on the Girardo family.
Did your family live in Torrington Ct? I am do genelogy for the family of Dominic Gerardi and have come across your grandmother’s name I think?
There are a lot of my ancestors whose surname was Claps……from Avigliano….. it is such a common name over the centuries….the surname doesn’t appear to be that of Italian origin….perhaps it is Croatian or Albanian….I would love to have an expert opinion of its origin.
My bet is that Claps is a French name.
Well, it is also a British name. My first bet is British, then French. It is interesting that the family had no need to Italianize their name to fit into the Avigliano society. Many Italians coming to America changed their names (Anglo-ized) at some point to fit in better.
My grandfather’s name is Michael Claps. His father was Louis Claps and his wife Angelina Romano. His family settled in Stamford CT. Early in the 20th century he went back to Avigliano to visit family and came back with a document on family history translated to English from Italian. It stated that the Claps family escaped from religious persecution in Turkey in the mid 1400s. The family separated. Some settled in Germany and some in Italy. The information has not been verified.
From old notes I read, it was written by a Jerry, but I have lost all further information.
The family name “Claps” goes back to Scotland in the 12th Century. It’s origin is from the name Clap (Clop), in England and can be found in the Roles of Oxford. Prior to that it can be traced back to the Court of King Chanute of Demark in the 1100’s AD.
The clan fought for Germany against Italy in the 1200-1300’s and remained in Italy. Their travels took them from Germany, sown through the Balkans and into Italy. The family Claps still possesses Scottish traqints, redheads, blondes and blue eyes. Most of the men have been tall 6″ plus.
I have no connection Klaps – Claps in Italy so far.
My grangrand father was born un Avigliano near 1837. He married with Ana María Coviello and after they went to Entre Ríos Argentina
He was Sastre
El padre de mi padre era Alberto, su padre Domingo y su padre Vito( el se radicó en Concordia Entre Ríos se casó y tuvo sus hijos aquí) su padre se llamaba Andrea pero no tengo datos de él o de Vito
Just guessing but it might have been Austrian originally as Klapps.
English name Clapps is not related to the Avigliano Claps.
Hola Michael: CLAPS viene de CLAPERS es un apellido judio. Ademas mi tatarabuelo era sastre y era muy comun que vendieran puerta a puerta. Es probable que vinieran escapados desde otro lugar.
I have two people with the last name Claps in my tree. Donata Maria Claps (B:1879) and her father Pietrantoinio Claps D: 1883

Hello! My cousin and I have done extensive research on our own for 4 years. We have a general question…We found that at least 3 of our family members died on the same day, Oct 22, 1892, in Avigliano. We find that very curious. Our family name is Coviello ( a ton of Coviellos, I know). Our Patriarch was Leonardo (Sp. Caterina Summa) born 1854 in Pietragalla. His Father, Giuseppe (sp. Maria Margherita DiNella), born 1825 died 1905 in Avigliano and his father Leonardo (Sp. Angela Maria Zaccagnino)
The names of the dead were
Vincenzo Coviello
Crescenza Sileo Coviello (wife)
Domenica Maria Coviello (Daughter)
Our thoughts were sickness, a fire or homicide. Any history to that would be appreciated.

Hi Casey.
My grandfather Angelo Pace was from Avigiliano. I’m not sure of the date he came to US. I think it was the early 1900s as my father was the baby in the family and he was born in the US in 1926.
Casey,
I am also a great great grandchild of Anna Marie Pace. Her daughter is Margherita Lacerenza. Do you know who Anna was married to, and who were Anna Marie’s parents were?
Hi Todd,
Sorry for my incredibly late response. My great, great grandmother (Anna Marie Pace) was married to Vito Stolfi. And I am not sure who her parents were.
I know this is very old and you may not see this Todd, but after speaking to my grandmother-she says her grandmother Anna Marie Pace had a mother Margaret and daughter Margaret-sister to my grandmother’s mother who was Carmela Stolfi (possibly Margherita). I was mistake-Anna Marie Pace was married to Joseph Stolfi. I still do not know the name of her father. My grandmother is part of the Mecca family.

They emigrated to New York around 1913, I believe. Any information on them would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for information on my great grandfather Domenico Carriero who was born in the late 1800s in Italy and moved to the US in the early 1900s. He also had an older brother, Paul “Red” Carr Carriero.
I’m helping my Colangelo cousins find their family. Their Grandfather, Arcangelo Colangeo, came from Avigliano according to his WWI and WWII registration records. He was born March 25, 1894. He had an older brother, Antonio, born December 24, 1888. On Antonio’s death record, it listed his mother’s maiden name as Louita. I’m trying to find out who their parents were and if they had other siblings. Antonio died in California in 1965 and “Arch” died in California in 1967.
Veronica, I found the birth records for Antonio and Archangelo. Antonio’s birth was recorded on record 881 on 30 December 1988. He was born on 29 Dec 1888. Arcangelo’s birth was recorded on record 209 on 31 Mar 1895 and was born on 29 Mar 1895. Their parents were Berardino Colangelo and Anna Maria Lovito. I couldn’t find any others that were close to the dates you mentioned. Hope thisa helps.
Hi I am also researching avigliano relatives. My great great great grandfather was angelo mecca and his wife was maria mecca. Their son Antonio was my great great grandfather, and his son Angelo was my great grandfather. Angelo came over thru ellis island in 1901 on the Liguria with his family which included my grandfather Dominick John Mecca. He was 5 years old at the time. They settled in Dunmore and the family is still there. They had a farm in avigiano from early times and i believe the farm is still in the mecca family. anyone out there related and have info to share? thanks
Charlotte,
I have done some research on Meccas from Dunmore. My wife’s family were Meccas from the Avigliano area of Italy. I am not familiar with your Angelo but will share any information I have that might help.
Bill M.
There are a lot of Meccas in dunmore. My Meccas would be descendants of Dominick John Mecca druggist on chestnut street, early 1930s. His sisters. Josephine née Mecca Mecca and Angelina née Mecca Mecca (yes they married Meccas!). My grandfather Dominick John had a brother William Mecca, but don’t know any of his descendants. I am writing a 200 page book on ancestors. Almost finished. Angelo Mecca great grandfather had a father Antonio Mecca who remained in avigliano. Birth about 1820 for antonio. Thanks for answering my post.
Hi Charlotte, I may a 6 months too late. But my father was the son of Josephine. We are starting our family tree & it sounds like we are related. I remember my father talking about his Uncle D.J., the druggist! I hope we can get as far as it sounds like you have!
My great grandfather Leonard Mecca also immigrated from the Potenza / avigliano and resided in Dunmore, PA on Foote Street. He was one of five brothers who immigrated. I believe the name of one of the brothers must have been Peter because that was the name of my grandmother’s (Leonard’s daughter)eldest and only brother Peter.
Her father was Peter Mecca (presumably one of Leonard’s nephews named after one of his uncles). Her mother was Carmela (Stolfi) Mecca.
My grandparents were Guiseppe and Anna Maria Pinto from Foote St Dunmore. They had five sons. My father’s Godmother was a Stolfi. My great grandparents were Anna Maria Coviello and Angelo Vito Pinto.
Charlotte, I’ve been researching the Meccas for a few months, have gone back 6-7 generations on some lines into the 1700s. Dominick was my grandmother’s (Angela Maria Mecca) brother, child of Angelo, so we are related – greetings!
My aunts and uncles would often mention their Uncle Dominick, evidently he had a great sense of humor and was very kind to them. Angela was a superwoman – raised 10 children, had a large garden, kept goats and chickens, was a fabulous cook, and her children adored her, though she ruled the household with an iron hand. 🙂
I would be very interested in corresponding with you and we can share our research.

My grandmother was a Bochiccio. Her parents came from Avigliano and were Vincenzo (born 1881) and Anna Rosa (born in 1887). They immigrated to NY (Port Chester).
I’m seeking living relatives in BASILICATA; my grandfather (Vito Gruosso) is from AVIGLIANO and came to America early 1900. He had brothers that came as well but also ones that STAYED in Italy – I’d like to locate these decendents.
My great grandmother (CARMELLA SANTAMANO-RADICE-Frascella) came here in the late 1800’s before the big migration. She was an incredible woman and a prominent mid-wife here in the Trenton, NJ area in the 1920’s. I would like to find any living relatives of hers still in Italy.
My great, Grandfather, Vito Romaniello, was b. Feb. 29, 1868 in Avigliano.
His wife, my great, grandmother, Irene Carriero was born Sept. 12, 1871.
I am trying to find out their mothers and fathers names and dates of birth and death.
Can you help me find that information?
Thank-you.
My name is Anna and I live in Italy, my family origin is in Avigliano – Potenza – Italy. I know that an uncle of my grandfather, the name of the uncle was Giuseppe Rocco Vaccaro, came to New York I think about 1925-1930 with his family, he was married and he had many childs, I know only the name of one of them Carmela Vaccaro who came to visit my dad’s family about 1955-1960 with a cuisin who had the same name Carmela, and in these period she was about 40 years old and she wasn’t married. For many years my father told me that his family was in touch with this american uncle and cuisins but then they loose contact. Someone can help me to find my parents? I would like so much to know them but I haven’t many information because my father and all my uncles are not alive. Thank you very much!!! Anna
Hello, I am searching for my husband’s ancestors from Avigliano.
My husband Steve’s great great grandfather Dominick Coyer (Coiro) was born in 1864 in Avigliano. He emigrated to the United States, but we think he may have traveled back and forth to Itlay. In my research, there are three dates for his emigration- 1870, 1881 and 1890. In America, he married Antoinette Ingrese around 1892. We don’t know if she is also from Potenza. Her parents were Leonardo Ingrese and Lucia Ricci.
They settled near Scranton or Dunmore, Pennsylvania.
Also, I believe his father’s name was Nick.
Hello! Dominick had a brother Pietro, who was my great grandfather. He lived in Dunmore Pa. His father was Nicola.
I just discovered on a document that my grandfather Leonardo Lovallo who arrived in America in 1913 when he was 13 years old; put his place of birth as Sant’Angelo Avigliano. He was born April 18th, 1900 and died in Brooklyn NY, April 12th, 1973. I would love to find out if I have distant relatives in Avigliano; and what the history is of the Lovallo name.
were all the Lovallo’s in that region related? Thank you so much.
My grandfather angelo Lovallo arrived in American in 1916 with his wife. They resided in Port Chester, NY, until their death. If you check the Ellis Island museum search you will find a whole bunch of lovallo’s eventhough, the name could of been misprinted but importantly they all came from Avigliano.
I am looking for relatives of my maternal grandfather, Vito Colangelo. He was born in Avigliano in 1872. His father was Tommaso Colangelo and his mother was Rosa Maria Colangelo (also her maiden name). Vito emigrated to Brooklyn NY and was married to Angela Maria Rubino of San Fele. He had sisters that I believe remained in Avigliano.
My paternal grandparents were Leonardo gricco (grieco) and caterina santarsiero. Any information on them or any siblings they may have had would be greatly appreciated. I believe they came to the USA between 1900 and 1905.

I am looking for information about my great grandfather Angelo Colangelo b. 1865 in Avigliano. He married my great grandmother Rosa from Atella. Rosa was his second wife. He had children from his first marriage– at least a daughter who was not allowed into the US when the family traveled there in 1905. He died in1935 in Westchester New York. I wonder if there are any relatives related to the daughter he left behind. Rosa was 20 years younger than he. Angelo had a passport when he left Italy. Rosa, his second wife, may also have been called Colangelo. The story was that they were cousins, but nothing is known for sure.
Hi Diane,
I don’t have a match for your great grandfather, but my maternal grandfather(Vito Colangelo b. 1872) was from Avigliano and there are many Angelo’s or Archangelo’s in his tree. His father was Tommaso (b.1842) and his mother (Rosa Maria Colangelo b. 1848) were both from Avigliano. I remember my Mom talking about relatives in Port Chester, NY. Mayne there is a connection…
My gg grandmother was Vieta/Vita Crescencia Colangelo from Avigliano. Not sure of her birth date but she had at least 3 children born between 1868 and 1888, so she was probably born in the 1840’s.
She married Vito Galasso also from Avigliano.
The 3 children (Rosa Maria Galasso, Maria Carmela Galasso, Giuseppe Galasso) all emigrated to the US between 1900 and 1908, settling in Port Chester, NY, where they raised families.
CLAPS, GENOVESE, COLASANTO, MARTINELLI
My Great Grandmother was Carmela Filomena (Claps) Genovese. Wife of Salavtore Genovese who also was from Avigliano. She was born 5 April 1895 or 1896. Came to America on S.S. Principe di Piemonte to New York and arrived 8 March 1912. Settled in Waterbury, Connecticut.
Any information is greatfully appreciated.
My grandfather came here around 1890’s From San Fele Italy. He went by the name of Charles but not sure. Lived on seventh street buffalo ny.
Looking for some information on my great-great grandmother Rosa Genovese (thats her married
name). I would like to know her husbands first name and when she married and the names of
all her children. She was born around 1842 +/- 1 year. I would so love to recieve any information you may have. She immigrated to New York City after 1900. I believe two or three of
her sons were Antonio, Guiseppi, Dominick.
Thank you so very much.

The reason for Cramutola is when people were writing the name down, the “T” looked like a “C”. Your name is Tramutola. People who are transcribers are mistaken the T for a C.
I am looking to fill in the gaps of my family history. Here is the information I know. My grandfather John Cramutola, USA, told me his grandparents came over from Potenza. He said that our family name was Tramutola, but some of our family changed it to Cramutola, while others kept Tramutola. His Grandfather was Giovanni Tramutola I believe to been born late to mid 1890s in Potenza. He may have a brother Donato and Father Michele. So, Giovanni Tramutola came to the USA met and Married Mary DeSimone, my grandpop believes ( they are my great great grandparents). They had several kids one is Joseph (name now Cramutola) he married Lucy (nee Terlingo) they are my great grandparents. Joseph and Lucy have several kids one being my grandfather John Cramutola, still living, 80 yo. We are from the Philadelphia, PA and New Jersey area of USA. Any help would be appreciated. I am planning a trip to Italy fall 2015. I would love to be able to visit where my ancestors lived ( and possibly current family).

He was born in 1888. He had four brothers Michael, Eliseo, Tony and Francesco. I believe my great-grandfather’s name was Francesco and my great-grandmother’s name was Louisa. I would appreciate any advice you have on how to get information about my family. Thank You!

She married Frank (sorry, don’t know the actual name) LaBelle whose year of birth I think was 1872. Vita came to the US in 1898 and I think Frank came in 1894-1895. I know they came from Avigliano (pretty sure it’s Avigliano, Potenza). Any information you could provide would be very helpful and very much appreciated.

I am looking for the birth records of Vincenzo Mecca, my grandfather. He was born in 1885. His father’s name was probably Salvatore and his mother’s name was most likely Margarita.
Correction, the name would be Augustino, not Salvatore. So I am looking for Vincenzo Mecca, son of Augustino and Margarita Mecca, born in 1885.
I am looking for my grandfather’s and grandmother’s birth records. His name was Santolo (Santo) C. Santarsiero, born in Avigliano, Italia on/about 17 March 1881, and who immigrated to Buffalo, New York, USA. Also, my grandmother was Carmela Cavalieri Santarsiero, born in San Fele, Italia on/about 4 July 1884, and who also immigrated to Buffalo, New York, USA. Also, any information that you have on their parents and brothers and sisters is appreciated. Any confirming information that you can provide would be very much appreciated! Grazie!
Anthony, your family is exactly like mine – I have relatives from both San Fele and Avigliano. What is your surname? I have Santarciero relatives – Mary Santarciero (b. 1874 in Italy) married Vittorio (Vito) DiNello, and my direct line is the DiNello family (though I am descended from Vito’s brother). Mary’s parents are Angelo and Crescentia Santarciero, and their other children are Lucy (b. 1889) and Antonio (b 1886). That is all I know so far. Any connection???

My Grandparents, Domenico Nole’ and Cristina Cortez Nole’ and their son,Michele, age l, arrived in Ellis Island on May 19, 1902. Their home in Italy was Avigliano. I am seeking marriage records from Avigliano. They would have been married in 1900-01.
Hello Christine, I just came across your post on this site. Domenic Nole and Christina Cortez are my great grandparents. Their son James Nole was my grandfather and his daughter Marie Nole was my mother. I would be interested in knowing if your have any family info to share.
I have very little information about my Italian ancestry. My father is Don Avigliano (alive @ age 89, a WWII veteran), my grandfather was Pietro Paulo Avigliano the son of Lucia Messina & Girade Avigliano (a candy maker in New York). Girade’s siblings were Giovannia, Augusto, & Margarita. I believe there is a 1900 New York census where Girade, Lucia and children were all living in the USA. I am curious how best to determine where Lucia & Girade came from (in Italy)& when they came to the US. My understanding is that they came to the US at different times and met & married in the USA. Any suggestions on where to begin ? (I actually visited Avigliano Citta in 1998 and was told there were few Avigliano’s in the city any longer) Thanks, Carol
I am trying to get info on my grandfathers first wife ( Rosina Petrino) She arrive in NY on January 14,1906 at the age of 21. She traveled under her maiden name and stated she was going to visit her husband Joseph D’Andrea. She gave birth to a son Anthony D’Andrea who later died at the age of 13. My grandfather married my grandmother in 1909 and raised Anthony until his death. He is buried with my grandfather in NY. My grandfather was born in Avigliano to Antonio and Maria Giuseppa Claps. Any information on any member of my family would be helpful.
Many thanks,
Frank
I am looking for my great-grandfather’s birth record. His name was Donato DiNello and my family told me he was born in Avigliano on 18 October 1869. Do you think his name was really DiNello? I keep searching for him and his parents. His parents are Francesco DiNello and Caterina Santoro DiNello. They all immigrated to Buffalo, New York, USA.
Leonardo BOCHICCHIO born 1839/ Filomena SABATO born 1846 in Avigliano. Had at least one son Antonio ( Buchicchio ) in America. Married Maria Nicola Rubino from Baragiano and later went to Chicago.
